Anannualtechnologyinsurancefeeisrequiredforallstudentswhoparticipateinthedistrict’s1:1deviceprogram.Studentsmaychoosetobringtheirownpersonalcorrespondingdevices,whichwillwaivetheannualtechnologyinsurancefee.[Note:TheDowningtownAreaSchoolDistrictwillnotmaintainorrepairstudent’spersonaldevices.]TheannualtechnologyinsurancefeecoverstheDistrict’scostofrepairingand/orreplacingdamagedequipment,aswellasloanerdevices,ifthedistrictissueddeviceneedstobesentoutforwarrantyworkand/oroutofwarrantyrepairs.Technicalandmaintenancesupportfordistrictissueddeviceswillbeprovided.

Allstudentswillbeassignedadeviceandwillreceiveachargerforthedevice.Alltabletswillbeissuedwithadevicecoverthatistoremainonthedeviceatalltimes.Itisthestudent’sresponsibilitytocareforthedevice,itsaccessories,andensurethedeviceisplacedinasafeandsecureenvironmentwhennotinuse.

Studentdevicesareintendedforuseintheireducationalprogram.Studentsshouldnotdeface,destroyorharmthedeviceinanyway.Shoulddamageortheftoccur,itisthestudent’sresponsibilitytoreporttheproblemtotheschool’smainofficewithin24hours.Ifdamageappearstobecausedfrommisuseorneglect,theschoolwillconductaninvestigation.Resultsoftheinvestigationmayresultindisciplineordevicecharges.Ifthedeviceisstolen,apolicereportmustbesuppliedtotheschoolwithin7daysofthetheft.Failuretofileapolicereportand/orsupplyacopyofthepolicereporttotheprincipalwillresultinachargeforthefullretailcostofthedevice.

DevicePurchase

Studentdevicesmayonlybepurchasedattheconclusionofastudent’s8thor12thgradeyears.Devicesmaybepurchasedbystudents’whohavepaidthefulltechnologyinsurancefeeforthedevice(iPadInsuranceFeefor3Years;LaptopInsuranceFeefor4Years).Purchasepriceofthedevicewillbe6%ofthefairmarketvalueoftheequipment.Fairmarketvaluewillbedeterminedannuallyinthespringofeachyear.Purchaseddeviceswillberestoredbacktofactorydefaults,aspartofthepurchaseprocess.

Warranty & RepairProcess

ndidentifytheirname,class,deviceassetnumberandabriefdescriptionoftheproblem.Studentsmayalsovisittheschool’stechnologyofficeduringthepostedhoursofoperation.

Ifadeviceissuecannotberesolvedon­site,orinatimelymannerasdeterminedbythetechnologyoffice,thenthestudentcanbeprovidedaloanerdevice.Astudentwillsecurethe“loanerdevice”bysigninganequipmentreleaseform,whichidentifiestheloanerdeviceasundertheresponsibilityofthestudentuntiltheoriginaldevicecanbereturned.Thestudent’soriginaldevicewillnotbereturneduntilthedevicerepairfeehasbeenpaid.

Parents/Guardianswillhave7daystopaytherepairfeepriortotheloanerisrecoveredbytheschool.ItisimportantforstudentstomaintainregularbackupsofallfilesasneithertheTechOfficenoranyoutsidevendorthatworksonthedevice,isrequiredtosafeguardstudentfiles.

Forstudentsparticipatingwithadistrictissueddevice,thefollowingdeductibleschedulewillbefollowedeachyearfornon­warrantyrepairs.Thereisnochargeifthemanufacturer/vendordeterminesthattherepairisawarrantyitem.
