UNDERTAKEN BY THE STATION

1. Broadcast Media Career and Networking Fair

Date: October 20, 2015 – 3 hours in length

Participating Employees: Kishen Newton

Host/Sponsor of Activity: Michigan Association of Broadcasters co-sponsored by WMU's School of Communication andWMU Career and Student Employment Services

Brief Description of Activity: An open Career fair at Western Michigan University for Communications Majors to seek employment and internships in Media.

2. Grand Valley State University Winter Career Fair

Date: 2/25/2016

Host/Sponsor of Activity: Grand Valley State University

Brief Description of Activity:This high profile eventtypically attractsover 1,300 students and alumni from all colleges and majors, and over 220 regional and nationalemployers with thousands of jobs, internships and clinical opportunities.

3. WGVU Digital Story Telling Workshops

Date: January 26, 2016; March 29, 2016; April 21, 2016

Participating Employees: Steve Chappell, Phil Lane, Rick Bierling, Shelley Irwin,

Patrick Center, Zach Liniewski

Host/Sponsor of Activity: WGVU Public Media

Brief Description of Activity: A two part digital workshop and the first of three digital story telling workshops in partnership with 12 students from seven local schools. Two Television and one Radio workshop were held.

4. Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference Career and Networking Fair

Date: 5/3/2016

Participating Employees: Kishen Newton, Michael Walenta, Bob Lumbert, Kelly Berendsen

Host/Sponsor of Activity: Michigan Association of Broadcasters

Brief Description of Activity and Station Participation: State wide Career Fair for broadcast organizations to network with potential candidates for employment and internships.

5. Grand Valley State University Scholarship Program

Brief Description: Students apply for this scholarship if they are interested in majoring in Communications. A panel of station employees decides who will receive the scholarship. Three students per year are awarded half tuition for her/his studies.

6. LZ Michigan Scholarship Program

Brief Description: Students who are Veteran or Veteran dependents apply for this scholarship. A panel of station employees decides who will receive the scholarship. Three students per year are awarded a partial tuition scholarship to attend Grand Valley State University.

7. Internship Program

Brief Description: WGVU has an active internship program for students at Grand Valley State University, students of other universities or high school, and members of the community. The number of slots and types of internship positions vary each year. The availability of these internships is advertised on WGVU’s website.
