Course description:In Environmental Systems, students conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Students study a variety of topics that include: biotic and abiotic factors in habitats, ecosystems and biomes, interrelationships among resources and an environmental system, sources and flow of energy through an environmental system, relationship between carrying capacity and changes in populations and ecosystems, and changes in environments.

Required Materials:

  • 3-Ring Notebook; 1.5-2 inches with 5 dividers
  • Notebook, notebook paper, and graph paper (when necessary)
  • Pencil- required daily; may use pens, want colored pencils or pens
  • Highlighter

Expectations:

  • Be POSITIVE- Give everything your best shot everyday; celebrate and learn from mistakes!
  • Be PUNCTUAL- Help yourself by being on time every period, every day, all week, all year!
  • Be PRODUCTIVE- Complete all assignments, labs, activities. Keep them in NOTEBOOK!

Be willing to work hard every day.

  • Be POLITE- You catch more flies (and Kudos, Friends, Respect) with honey!
  • Be PREPARED- Having materials and assignments is less stressful than having an excuse!
  • Be BRIGHT- Make good choices. Don’t give up, Don’t ever give up.

Class Policies:

Absences, Tardies, Late Work, Grade Percentages, Retesting, Tutoring & Technology Policies align with all AnnaHigh School Policies.

  • Tardies: Productive students will have started Bell Ringer before final class bell. Tardy passes are required for late entry. Collect from Mrs. Scheff, PEIMS.
  • Late Work:

1 Class late – 30%

2 or 3 Classes late – 50%

Assignments will NOT be accepted after 3 Classes late.

  • Grade Percentages:

20% Non Mastery/Daily Grades (Bellringers, homework, in-class activities)

30% Mastery/Quizzes & Labs

50% Mastery/ Unit Tests & Projects

  • Retesting: Students may retake a test after attending/completing 2 tutoring sessions. Students have 1 week from the posting of test scores to complete tutoring and must take make-up test within 2 weeks of score posting.
