- Select an A-Z Category and write on board e.g. C D Category - students copy the list within the category – this should be in alphabetical order order. Each category has 10 tracks for listening.
- Give students an opportunity to ask about anything they have never heard of (eg What’s a Barbershop Quartet”? )
- Play the 10 tracks (which should be in a random order). You can vary the length of each excerpt to accommodate a particular class, time of day etc etc.
- Students decide which order the category items are played in.
- Go over answers, playing just the opening of the track. You do not need to ask who got them all correct because that’s not the point – this is just a tool for exposing students to a variety of music.
- Interesting discussions result from spending more time on this activity!
