Dear Parents

And so another year draws to a close, where has it gone???

Firstly I would like to thank all of the parents, carers and grandparents for your continued support. It’s been a busy year and we’ve needed your help and input on many occasion. We really appreciate all you do.

I’d like to thank all the staff for the many extra miles theyall go so that your children have many opportunities here at Front Street. Without Mr Hollingworth and Miss Routledge sport would be non-existent. Our amazing choir has performed brilliantly thanks to Miss Walker, Miss Scott and Miss Donkin. We’ve had shows, events, visits and we’ve won many awards, this is down to my amazing team! Thank you to the governors too.

Lastly I’d like to thank the children for all their hard work this year. I’m proud of you all!!

I hope you all have a great summer and look forward to seeing you all on

Gold!

We are delighted that the school, for a second year running, has been awarded Sainsbury's School Gold for the sports, competitions and P.E. involvement achieved across the year. There are a significant number of criteria for this including the number of competitions we have to enter, whether we enter A, B and C teams, plus engagements with sports clubs, support for our SEN and less active children and pupil involvement in learning to lead and supporting with school sport to name just a few!

Chase Park Bench Design Winner!

Earlier in the year all the children from year 5 entered a competition to design a carving that would be used on the ends of one of the new benches to be placed in Chase Park as part of its redevelopment. We are delighted that Jenna, from 5G, has been chosen by theCommittee involved with the redevelopment as the winner and we can't wait to see her design incorporated within the park itself!

PSQM UpdateandHoliday Science

Our new science ambassadors have had their first meeting and we canalready tell that they are going to be little superstars! Next term, we willcontinue inour mission to make science lessons the best they can be and achieve the SILVER Quality Mark for Science.

Here is a short experiment for you to try at home in the holidays. Please share your pictures and thoughts with us through the school email or print and send along to Mrs Smith:

INVESTIGATION: A Colour Symphony - You will need:

  • A flat tray (like a cookie baking tray)
  • Food colouring (at least 3 different colours)
  • Whole milk – low fat milk will not work for this experiment
  • Liquid soap used for washing dishes

What to do:

  1. Carefully, pour the milk into the tray so that it just covers the bottom
  2. Add about 6-8 drops of different coloured food colouring onto the milk in different spots
  3. Add about 5 drops of the liquid soap onto the drops of food colouring and watch the show!
  4. To clean up, simply pour the coloured milk down the drain (don’t drink it!)

How does it work?

So you know where the colour comes from, but why milk and liquid soap? The main job of dish soap is to go after fat and break it down. Usually, the fat is on dishes from the food we eat, but fat is also in whole milk. When you drop the liquid soap onto the tray, it tries to break down the fat in the milk. While it was doing that, it caused the colours to scatter and mix, creating a very colourful display. Hope you had fun!

MAKE IT AN EXPERIMENT -To make it a true experiment, you can try to answer these questions:

1. What liquid dish soap works the best?

2. Does the shape of the tray affect the reaction?

How parents who’ve applied for 30 hours already can access their account

Message from HMRC

Hi all,

Our call centre has been receiving a high numbers of calls from parents who have applied for 30 hours free childcare and/ or Tax-Free Childcare through the childcare service, but cannot recall how to access their account – and get their eligibility code.

Please share the information below with any parents who are having difficulty finding their code. This will mean that they do not need to contact our call centre. Access to the childcare service can be found here -

To get into their account, parents should click “”4. Apply or sign in to the childcare service as a parent”. They’ll then see this screen:

Parents can click “apply” and then will answer questions about their youngest child’s age before being asked to sign in using their Government Gateway ID, which they will have received when they applied.

Once they’ve signed in using Government Gateway, they will then see the childcare account screen:

They can click on “30 hours free childcare” to see their 30 hours eligibility code. These normally start with “500”.

They will also find this code in their “secure messages”. An example secure eligibility message looks like this (this would be populated with the information of a real parent.

There may be a small number of parents who have a temporary code, starting “11…” They will have been given this over the phone, and will receive a letter containing this from HMRC too.

If any parents are still struggling to access their account, please ask them to contact our call centre on 0300 123 4097.Please share this documents with any providers or other partners speaking with parents who might be struggling to find their eligibility code in their childcare account.
