American Icons and Legends Final Exam

Task: You will create a video about who/what you consider to be the ultimate American Icon. Within this video you will explain what makes this individual or thing the definition of American Icon. This will be 20% of your Final Grade.

o  Choose your icon. Each person must have a unique choice. If your original choice has already been taken, you will need to think of a new one.

o  You will create a video, using PowerPoint, MovieMaker, iMovie, Quik, etc. that is up to five minutes in length. We will watch all videos on exam day.

o  Submit your video (You will want to check prior to exam day that it works on the computer), on a flash drive, SD card, or via email. We do not have time for any technological problems, so you will have to make sure it works before the exam period actually starts. I have to actually have a copy of your video instead of you just bringing it in with your phone and showing it, so please plan accordingly (put it on a flashdrive from your lap top, email it from your phone, etc).

o  We will vote at the end of the exam for who/what is the ultimate American Icon (Note: You will not be permitted to vote for your own icon).

To include:

o  Beginning of your video/slideshow must have a unique title- the title should not be just the name of the icon- it should be an original name. Also at the beginning should be your name and your icon’s name.

o  A minimum of 20 photos that are large and clear

o  Captions explaining the photos or narration

o  A minimum of one song

o  This should fit with your icon

o  This song should be titled on your video

o  A minimum of three video clips that are of this individual or item. The video is to be clear and easily understood- nothing scratchy, pixelated, or unclear (audio or visual). While the video is playing, the song should not be able to be heard if there is sound to your video.

o  Text or narration (so either text explaining the photos, videos and icon or a voice over doing the same thing).

o  You are to explain how your icon is the ultimate American Icon. How are they the definition of the greatest American Icon? Defend your choice using your video, photos, audio, and text.

o  Answer within the video:

o  How was the icon unique?

o  What were they known for that others were not?

o  Were they the first to do something or be something?

o  How have they impacted society?

o  Be creative- use interesting pictures, videos, audio samples, color, fonts, transitions, backgrounds
