______

What we will cover – In this class we will cover the following Algebra 2 topics: Radical Functions, Rational Exponents, Exponential & Logarithmic Functions, Rational Functions, Quadratic Relations, Sequences and Series, and basic concepts in Trigonometry.

1.Binders

You are required to have a binder, which you must bring to class every day, even test days. I recommend a 1 ½” binder. This should be a three-ring binder. In addition, you will need three divider sheets with tabs.(Anyone having difficulty obtaining these supplies should see me.) In this binder, you will be required to have the following:

Binder check page - Your binder will not be checked for credit if this page, which I will give to you, is not inside. This page is used to keep track of how you are doing with the upkeep of your binder and should be placed right after the assignment page. Binders will be checked at least two times a semester for organization and assignment and note completion.

Class notes - All class notes for each unit should be kept in your binder in a separate section labeled “NOTES”, which should be placed right after the binder check page. All notes should be dated and must be in order, either by section or by the date they are given.

Assignments - All assignments for each unit should be kept in the next separate section and should be labeled “ASSIGNMENTS”. These should also be labeled with the date, chapter number, page numbers, question numbers, and in the order assigned. Assignments will also include written work, worksheets, group work, or anything that is graded for points that is not an assessment.

Quizzes/Reviews – All graded quizzes and reviews should be placed in a third section of your binder for easy reference labeled “QUIZ/REVIEW”.

Everything you complete in the class should be put in the correct section in the binder. There should be no loose papers in the pockets or work from other classes. During the binder check I will concentrate on the following: legible notes that are labeled, completed, and ordered, all assignments in order, completed, and corrected, all assessments are in order, and everything, in general, is neat and organized.

2.Homework

It is important that you diligently do all your assignments and stay up-to-date with them. I will not be grading each and every homework assignment, I will randomly pick assignments to grade the day they are due. However, in order to be successful in this class, you will need to know how to complete all problems that are assigned, as they are all susceptible to being put on a quiz or test. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO CHECK THE WEBSITE AND/OR CHECK WITH PEOPLE IN YOUR GROUP AND COMPLETE THE WORK YOU MISSED. I SHOULD NOT BE ASKED FOR THE ASSIGNMENT UNLESS YOU ARE UNABLE TO FIND IT YOURSELF.

3.QUIZZES

There will typically be about two quizzes, for each unit. Quizzes will be announced in advance and will be counted as a formative assessment (explained later). If you miss the day before a quiz, expect to take the quiz with the class.

4.TESTS

All tests will be announced in advance and will be counted as a summative assessment (explained later). If you miss the day before a test, expect to take the test with the class. If you miss class the day of a test, you will take the test when you return or when scheduled by me.

***Make-Up Test or Quizzes: If you miss the day of a test or quiz, you must make an appointment with me to take it after school within in 2 days of the original quiz/test date.

5.GRADING

Grades will be calculated each grading period according to the following scale.

Summative Assessments= 40%93-100 = A73-76 = C

Formative Assessments= 40%90-92 = A-70-72 = C-

Final Exam = 20% 87-89 = B+67-69 = D+

100%83-86 = B63-66 = D

80-82 = B-60-63 = D-

77-79 = C+0 – 59 = E

Summative assessments will be given at the end of each unit (chapter tests). Formative Assessments will be given throughout a unit and can include assignments, homework quizzes, group work, quizzes, etc. There will be a final exam covering all course material at the end of the trimester.

6.ATTENDANCE

I will follow the school’s attendance policy. Refer to the assignment and assessment policy previously mentioned for making up what is missed during an absence.
