OUR LENTEN JOURNEY
In the opening prayer for the First Sunday of Lent we turn to God and ask him that during the yearly observances of holy Lent ‘we may grow in understanding of the riches hidden in Christ’. Already we see our focus during this time being Jesus and the great treasures and graces to be found in particular in the events at the end of Lent, that is Holy Week and the mystery of the Cross.The same opening prayer then asks that by our works during Lent we might come to experience in ourselves these graces that come to us from the Cross. Each day in Lent has its own unique prayers for the Mass of the day, be it the Sunday Mass or a weekday Mass, and if you have time a daily meditation of these prayers and readings can open to us many of those riches hidden in Christ and his Cross. God bless you this next fortnight, Fr Bruno. / Sanctuary Lamp these weeks is burning forthe sick and housebound of the parish andOur Lady’s Lamp for Christian & Jeanne.If you would like for either of these lamps to burn for an intention contact the parish office.

The video is accessible on their website at ‘starparish.com’ where you can scroll down and click on‘Facing God Together’. / From the Saints
At the age of 11 St Therese of Lisieux made her First Holy Communion. On that day she made three resolutions which she kept for the rest of her life:
1 – I will struggle against my pride;
2 – I will entrust myself to the Blessed Virgin Mary every day by saying the Memorare;
3 – I will never get discouraged.
The Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen(St Bernard).

AN ACT OF CONTRITION FOR CONFESSION
‘Forgive me my sins, O Lord, forgive me my sins; the sins of my youth, the sins of my age, the sins of my soul, the sins of my body, my idle sins, my serious voluntary sins, the sins I know, the sins I do not know; the sins I have concealed so long, and which are now hidden from my memory. I am truly sorry for every sin, mortal and venial, for all the sins of my childhood up to the present hour. I know my sins have wounded thy tender heart. O my Saviour, let me be freed from the bonds of evil through the most bitter passion of my Redeemer. Amen. O my Jesus, forget and forgive what I have been. Amen.
