Re: 2015 Maine State Cal Ripken 10U All Star Tournament

The Brunswick Cal Ripken welcomes your 10U District Champions to the 2015 Maine State Cal Ripken 10U Tournament, which will be held at Lishness Park in Brunswick, Maine. Directions to Lishness Park are provided below. The double-elimination tournament is scheduled to start on Sunday July 5th and, weather permitting, will conclude on Thursday July 9th. The Tournament Directors are Barry Jordan (ME State Commissioner) and Anthony Wolverton (Brunswick Cal Ripken League President). Please email Anthony Wolverton with the contact information for your team’s Manager in the event it is necessary to change and/or cancel a game. In order to cover the cost of umpires, balls and other supplies needed to host this tournament, each team must purchase a FAN ENTRY PASS for $150.00. Checks can be made payable to Brunswick Cal Ripken and payment will be received at the Snack Shack. There is no additional gate fee for this tournament.

Tournament t-shirts will be available for sale on site in VERY LIMITED quantities and sizes at the tournament. Please be sure to visit the table near the snack shack early.

Lishness Park is located on Jordan Avenue very close to the center of Brunswick. The complex has 2 playing fields, 2 batting cages, and 2 warm up areas. The first field after the parking lot is “A” Field and the field past the snack shack is “B” Field. Both fields have dirt infields, raised pitching mounds, an outfield fence, and enclosed dugouts. The batting cages are between the 2 fields; the cage closest to the snack shack is for A field, the 2nd cage for B field. There are 2 practice fields to warm up beyond the B field outfield; the field furthest from the highway is for A field, the field closest to the highway is for B field. There is limited bleacher seating for spectators along the 1st and 3rd base line on A and B fields and there is also space beyond the outfield fences for fans to watch the action; spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Portable toilets are available and located within close proximity to each field. Overflow parking will be available at Edwards Field (see map below). To get to Edwards, take a right onto Jordan Ave from Lishness Park, drive about ¼ mi and the entrance to the field is on the left and is marked with an overhanging sign.

A concessions building will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, water, sports drinks, soda, candy, etc. Concessions will be available approximately 30 minutes before the start of the first game and will close shortly after the last game of the day.

Teams will have the opportunity to use 2 auxiliary fields in between games on Sunday. The auxiliary fields will be at Edwards Field. Edwards has a large parking lot and a playground area for smaller children. There is enough space for kids to play baseball and other games such as soccer, Frisbee, football, etc. We ask that you respect the infield areas of the fields and play other sports/activities only on the outfield areas of the fields. Take a right onto Jordan Ave from Lishness Park, drive about ¼ mi and the entrance to the Edwards Field on the left is marked with an overhanging sign.

To ensure equal availability of these player facilities, a schedule is attached. Please make sure your coaches are aware of the schedule as it will be enforced. Briefly, each team will be allowed to use the cage for batting practice while the other team is allowed the use of the practice field for approximately 30 minutes and switch for another 30 minutes prior to the start of each game.

Below is a schedule of events that will be followed for every game:

·  Coaches and team will arrive at the field 1 hour before their scheduled game time

·  The practice fields will be available for each team to use prior to their games. Your practice field will correspond to your game field, i.e., game on A field, your practice field is A field. See the schedule below

·  30 mins prior to the start of the game, the home team will have the game field for fielding practice for 10 mins

·  As soon as the home team is done, the visiting team will have the game field for 10 mins

·  Prior to the start of each game, the umpire crew will briefly meet with each team’s manager and coaches to discuss any special field rules.

·  Please make sure your team’s batting lineup card is completed and provide 1 copy to the other team’s scorekeeper, the official scorekeeper, and the plate ump. Lineup cards must be submitted to the scorer’s table with all players’ and coaches’ full names, positions, and uniform numbers 15 mins prior to the start of each team’s 1st game and the Championship game. Please make sure all lineup cards include the names and numbers of the non-starters as well as your team’s Protest Committee representative at the bottom of the lineup card.

Before each team’s first game of the tournament and before the Championship Game, players and coaches will be announced. The National Anthem will be played or sung prior to the start of the tournament and before the Championship Game.

All managers and coaches shall be in team uniform during tournament competition. It is permissible to allow local league uniforms during tournament competition provided they are like in style and have different numbers.

There is a minimum playing rule in effect. The rule will be: In a 6 inning game, all players must have a minimum of 1 at bat and play the field for 3 outs. This rule does not apply if a game lasts less than 6 innings due to the 10-run rule. The intent is to ensure all players have an opportunity to play in the tournament. The penalty will be forfeiture of the game.

Finally, please make sure your team comes with the required documentation that must be presented to the Tournament Director prior to the first game. A summary of what is required for tournament documentation is outlined on the following page entitled Tournament Documentation.

We look forward to seeing your 10U team and hope your team and fans have a great time at the tournament and in the Brunswick area.

Sincerely,

Anthony Wolverton
