Letters of Recommendation

Letters of recommendation are to be confidential, on letterheadwith signature and must be received by Monday, October 17th. Please note: no more than three letters of recommendation will be considered. The letters of recommendation should be submitted by email to y the letter writer.

Letters should beaddressed to Thomas R. Martin, MD / Scientific Director, PBF Fellowship Program, and the letters should cover:

  • demonstrated potential for establishing an independent pulmonary research career
  • evidence of originality
  • adequacy of scientific background and evidence of superior performance
  • quality of research publications

IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION

  • Print the PBF Fellowship Application form to use as a reference while completing your application.
  • Please carefully follow all instructionsfor each section of the application. Your application will not be considered if it: 1) is received after the deadline, 2) is incomplete, 3) does not comply with the format or page limit guidelines, or4) is not submitted as one pdf file as instructed.
  • Use Arial 11-point font size, margins of 0.5 inch, and single-line spacing for all text.
  • With the exception of the abstract and lay summary, which should be typed into the boxes provided, the text boxes containing instructions should be deleted.
  • The department chair letter must be signed by the department chair and letters from consultants or collaborators are to be included in the pdf application file and not sent to the PBF Fellowship Office. Please note that the department chair letter must be from the department chair and not from a division or section head.
  • Appendix is limited to up to three of the applicant’s publications directly relevant to the proposed studies and/or enlarged photographs of color images that are included in the seven-page limit of the Research Plan. Do not place essential material such as figures or preliminary data in an appendix to circumvent the page limit.
  • Your application must be submitted as a single pdf file, which would include the appendix materials.
  • The last page of your application pdf file should be the page listing the individuals writing your letters of recommendation.
