Title: Development Associate
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Fulltime Nonexempt
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Development Associate plans, directs and implements the fundraising initiatives for the Alaska Aviation Museum. The Development Associate duties will include, but are not limited to: cultivation and management of all individual and corporate donors, researching, assisting board grant committee with writing grants, management of grants, planning and implementing AAM fundraising events, and all efforts associated with the cultivation of support for AAM.
Responsibilities:
Work with the executive director to develop and execute an AAM annual fundraising plan to bring in $250,000 per year in donations, memberships, sponsorships and fundraisers
Manage donor database and acknowledgements using donor management software
Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors, both corporate and individual
Plan and implement special events, including two main fundraisers per year
- Develop and implement a plan to obtain underwriting and sponsorship for major events and exhibitions
Write newsletter articles, direct mail, social media posts and e-blasts, handle promotions and public relations for events
Research and secure grants from foundation, corporate, and government funders in conjunction with the AAM grants committee
Create monthly development status reports
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Excellent verbal and written communication
- Current drivers license and vehicle
Strong social and people skills, knowledge of the community and ability to prospect for new donors while keeping current ones
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Proficient in Adobe Suite & fundraising software preferred
Experience with social media and digital communications
Positive attitude, sense of humor, strong work ethic and high degree of professionalism
A minimum oftwo years’ experience working in museums, nonprofits or a similar environment preferred
Strong sense of personal accountability and follow-through
Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed to support the Museum’s membership programs, fundraisers and events
- Ability to use the following equipment: Computer, telephone, calculator, AV equipment, copier, fax machine, scanner
