General Rules

  • Participants must be enrolled in the 4-H Shotgun Project
  • Participants may enter only once per contest
  • Participants should have one practice round 1 from each station.
  • Shotgun coaches are responsible for purchasing targets.
  • Equipment will follow Oklahoma 4-H Shotgun Rules
  • Rounds must be shot in one session with a maximum 5 minute break in between rounds.
  • Oklahoma 4-H Shotgun Rules and classes will be followed.

Scoring

  • A round consists of 25 shots. Each participant must shoot 2 full rounds.
  • If a participant breaks 50 straight, the participant is required to shoot 2 more rounds of 25 following the same rules as the first 50 shots.
  • Scoresheets must be printed and marked / or X for hit and 0 for a miss.
  • All scores will be posted online.
  • Scoresheets must be mailed by the deadline.
  • Late entries will not be accepted.

Awards

  • Medals will be mailed to the 1st – 3rd place individuals in each class.
  • A keepsake token will be mailed to every participant who successfully submits scoresheets and the coach whose name appears on the registration sheet.
  • Tokens will be unique for each discipline and will be awarded for the following for 2017:

2017 OKLAHOMA FALL SHOTGUN TRAP MAIL-IN RULES

Ages are determined using members age BEFORE January 1 of the current calendar year.

Age Divisions:

Junior (ages 10-11)

Intermediate (ages 12-13)

Senior (ages 14+)

No release triggers permitted.

ONLY new factory ammunition is permitted. No Reloads or factory reloads!

Definition of a Completed Shot: The shot is finished once the participant has followed through and then the firearm has been removed (dismounted) from the shoulder. At this point the next participant may remove a shell from their shell pouch and load their firearm. The next participant may be holding the shell in their hand, but still inside their shell pouch ready to load when the previous participant is dismounting their firearm.

Shotguns MAY NOT be loaded or a shell chambered until it is the members turn to shoot.

Live ammunition may not be placed (grounded) on the shooting pad. Shells are to be kept in members shooting pouch, vest, etc.

Coaches, participants and parents/guardians are responsible for reading the rules, knowing the rules of their events and complying with the rules and established equipment guidelines.

If coaches, members or parents/guardians have questions regarding rules and/or equipment requirements, they are encouraged to contact the State 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator for clarification prior to the event.

Learning the rules is part of the education process for shooting sports participants.

For all State 4-H Shooting Sports Contests, once the event has begun, if it is determined that a member has used equipment not within acceptable standards as set in the contest rules, the member will be asked to leave the field of competition and their score(s) for that event will be forfeited.

All awards are individual awards. There are NO team awards!

Event:Standard ATA (American) trap (16 yards)

Course of Fire:2 rounds (50 total targets) consisting of five targets from each of five shooting yards.

Time Limit:Shooters will fire in an expeditious manner, avoiding unnecessary delay.

Equipment:Any shotgun 12, 16 or 20 gauge firing a shot charge meeting the requirements of the NGB.

Ammunition:A contestant cannot use: Any load with a velocity greater than 1290 FPS (feet per second) with maximum shot charge of 1 1/8 ounces, or 1325 FPS with a maximum shot charge of 1 ounce, or 1350 FPS with a maximum shot charge of 7/8 ounces, as measured in any individual shotshell. These velocities are maximum and no individual shotshell shall exceed these limits for the designated shot charge. In addition, no load containing more than 1 1/8 ounces or any shot larger than Number 7 ½ can be used.

Misfires:A shooter can have 2 misfires per round of 25 shots

Shell Clean-up:A squad will pick up their shell casings at the completion of their shooting.
