Air Force JROTC

Dutchtown High School

Dear Parent/Guardian 2 March 2015

Your child has expressed an interest incompeting for a position to attendthe Southeast RegionAir Force Junior ROTC Cadet Officer Leadership School 15– 20 June (13-20 June for cadre) at Mercer University, Macon. Some 200students from approximately 18 different Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina high schoolsusually attend the Mercer leadershipcamp.

REMINDER(a follow up from our initial camp letter given to students on 7 Jan): Students planning to attend camp must take part in the camp prep/eval, 23-27 March, each day, 3:35pm to 5:15 pmfor training and evaluation for selection to attend camp. Additionally, students must be passing JROTC,have demonstrated leadership potential, have exemplary behavior, and consistently demonstrate a very positive attitude for selection to attend. We can take up to 30 basics (first time attendees) and 6 cadre (prior camp graduates) to camp.

1. If your child misses anyday, or reports late/leave early any day (unless they have a signed note from a teacher verifying they were handling academic matters, but still must arrive by 4:15), they will be disqualified for selection.

2. Students who report to camp prep unable to complete all activities and/or those who are dressed inappropriately for any activity will be dismissed and disqualified for selection.

3. Each day, camp prep activities will include room set up – closet & bed set up (making hospital corners); drill (marching and commanding the flight);camp operations and challenges briefings and Q&A sessions; and a 1-mile run (requirements = males: 10 minutes and females 11 minutes).

Students are to wear PT clothes and running shoes, and must have a water bottle with them each day, or they will be dismissed and disqualified for selection.

4. Your child must run a full mile eachday, and meet the maximum run times as cited here: males less than 10 minutes, females less than 11 minutes. Just one second over these times will make your child ineligible for camp selection. (Cadets must pass the mile each day at camp. If a student fails the mile run he/she is sent home immediately and does not receive a refund.)

5. We strongly urge your child to start some type of physical conditioning program and start learning how to make their beds with “hospital” bed corners. Students who do not meet camp standards in any area will not be selected for attendance because they will not be able to succeed at camp. Students sent home from camp do not receive refunds.

COLS selectees must alsobe available for the last leadership school prep 8-12June, 8am to 10am, and be physically fit and in proper Air Force grooming standards when reporting for leadership school. During this final phase of DHS training, your child must complete a full mile as cited here: males within 10 minutes, females within 11 minutes. Just one second over the minimum time will make your child ineligible to attend. Cadets must pass the mile each day at camp. If a student fails the mile run he/she is sent home immediately and do not receive a refund. We strongly urge your child to start some type of physical conditioning program and start learning how to make their beds with “hospital” bed corners. Students who do not meet camp standards in any area will not be selected for attendance.

Additionally, your child must get and passan athletics physical and turn it in to meby 11May for attendance at either camp. The physical must be current through 30 June 2015. Student athletes are responsible for getting copies of their school physicals from their coaches.

ESTIMATED camp cost: $300 for basics (= $250 for camp + $50 for transportation) and $315 for cadre (cadre provide their own transportation to and from camp). We will have more definite costs when we give students the detailed selection/registration packages in mid-April, after HQ AFJROTC disperses operational budgets for camp.

Money (cash or money order only) and registration packages will be due to me by 4pm on 17 April.

Please e-mail me at or call me at (770) 515-7510, ext. 131 if you need any additional information.

Sincerely,
