After a flock of 10 purple flamingos appeared on the Clark’s lawn in Pleasant Hill, Don Clark read the instructions on how to make them fly away by donating to the Alzheimer’s Walk.

Pleasant Hill Ramblings

There have been purple flamingos sighted in various yards around Pleasant Hill this past month. A note was left around the neck of one of the 10 colorful birds, which “landed” on the front yard of Jean & Don Clark’s home explaining what to do. if you are “flocked” by these wild and crazy birds. A donation of any amount got the flamingos removed. If you wanted to designate where next they should fly, then $30 was expected. They do not leave a mess in the grass nor do they have to be fed, except by supporting the Uplands/Pleasant Hill Alzheimer’s Committee. The 3nd Plateau Alzheimer's Tennessee Walk was held at the Carl T. Duer Soccer Complex in Crossville on September 13. More than 32 were signed up to walk and raise money from the Uplands/Pleasant Hill area. There were prizes, races, and a pet parade. The Committee will be collecting money for another month after the walk.

On Friday, September 26 Fletcher House is holding a “Cookout to Stomp Out Alzheimer’s” in Adshead Hall from 11:30 am through 1:00 pm. Any donation will give you an opportunity to taste some stupendous chili. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded at the Chili Cook-Off. An entry form must be completed by September 24th. Stop at Fletcher House of Assisted Living at the Fletcher Circle off of Church St. in Uplands Village, Pleasant Hill. A Silent Auction will be held at the same time. This is your chance to win homemade baked goods, handcrafted baskets, a fall wreath, a framed picture, and some really cute dog coats of all sizes. More items are expected and Kellie Dodson of Fletcher House is collecting them.

At the 2013 Alzheimer's Appreciation Luncheon held at Forte's in Cross- ville. Teams that turned in the most money were given recognition. The last team called was the Uplands/Pleasant Hill Team, which had turned in a little more than $6.400 – the top contributor. This was the greatest amount this Team has gathered so far. There were five fund raising eventsin 2013: the Kick-Off in July, the Flamingos Flocking, which raised $640; the actual Walk; a Silent Auction organized by Sid and Marian Nichols, which raised $485.25. Then on September 27, the Fletcher House staff provided a wonderful luncheon organized by Darlene Austin, held at Adshead Hall, with entertainment, which raised over $1300 from donations. Many just dropped off their donation to Joy Tollison in the Uplands office. The whole community gave generously and is expected to do so again in 2014.
