Title: Aerosmith - Cryin' lyrics
There was a time
When I was so broken hearted
Love wasn't much of a friend of mine
The tables have turned, yeah
Cause me and them ways have parted
That kind of love was the killin' kind
Now listen
All I want is someone I can't resist
I know all I need to know by the way that I got kissed
I was cryin' when I met you
Now I'm tryin' to forget you
Love is sweet misery
I was cryin' just to get you
Now I'm dyin' cause I let you
Do what you do - down on me
Now there's not even breathin' room
Between pleasure and pain
Yeah you cry when we're makin' love
Must be one and the same
It's down on me
Yeah I got to tell you one thing
It's been on my mind
Girl I gotta say
We're partners in crime
You got that certain something
What you give to me
Takes my breath away
Now the word out on the street
Is the devil's in your kiss
If our love goes up in flames
It's a fire I can't resist
v I was cryin' when I met you
Now I'm tryin' to forget you
Your love is sweet misery
I was cryin' just to get you
Now I'm dyin' cause I let you
Do what you do to me
Cause what you got inside
Ain't where your love should stay
Yeah, our love, sweet love, ain't love
If you give your heart away
I was cryin' when I met you
Now I'm tryin' to forget you
Your love is sweet misery
I was cryin' just to get you
Now I'm dyin' just to let you
Do what you do what you do down to me, baby, baby
I was cryin' when I met you
Now I'm tryin' to forget you
Your love is sweet misery
I was cryin' when I met you
Now I'm dyin' cause I let you
Do what you do down to , down to, down to, down to
I was cryin' when I met you
Now I'm dyin' to forget you
Your love is sweet
I was cryin' when I met you
/ Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on that sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Aerosmith is one of the most well known, famous rock bands of all time. This group was formed in 1970 and still performing today. They are commonly known as “The Bad Boys from Boston” and “America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band” and perform many different rock genres of music, including hard rock, blues-rock, and heavy metal. Their song “Cryin” proved to be a major hit after debuted in 1993 in a number one ranked album called “Get a Grip.” The song tells of a broken relationship between a man, lead singer Steven Tyler and a woman. This song can also relate to lead singer Steven Tyler’s drug use. Aerosmith’s music, such as the song “Cryin,” continues to be hits today. (Wikipedia)

Dylan Thomas, who was born on October 27, 1914 in the United Kingdom and died on November 9th, 1953, was a Welsh poet and writer who wrote only in English. His poetry embodied the literary movements of Modernism and Romanticism. His most famous pieces include the works “Fern Hill” and “Do not go gentle into that good night,” written in 1952.The work was written in the journal “Botteghe Oscure” in 1952. The poem was written for Thomas’s dying father, and has had great influences on art and many areas of pop culture today. (Wikipedia)

Comparison:

- Both authors have had drug/drinking problems

- Both authors write about loved ones

- Both authors use a lot of repetition in their works

The poem “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” (1951) by Dylan Thomas and song “Cryin” (1993) by Aerosmith are similar because they relate to the emotional bond between two people, describe the tragedy of being separated from a loved one, and allude to the essence of dying. Thomas portrays the relationship between a dying father and his son, and Aerosmith describes the relationship between a man and a woman that are no longer together. Both authors describe the hard the lives of the main characters have been because they have to eventually be separated from their lovers. They even metaphorically compare this separation to dying because of the pain that they have to go through by being separated from their lovers. The main difference between the two works as that Aerosmith relates to the past and Thomas relates to the future. Aerosmith describes his past relationship with a lover and Thomas tells the audience that his father is about to die. Both works emphasize the pain brought to the lovers and that they will not know how to move on with their lives. It is interesting how one of the most well known rock bands and poem writers can be so similar in the writing and the creation of their works. The song “Cryin” by Aerosmith better portrays the theme of love to me because of the musical emphasis on the words “cryin’ and dyin’ and because I find the song to be more interesting.
