13:30 walk around Berlin city centre

18:00 dinner snack (individual at Berlin main station food court, paid by students themselves), picking up luggage

19:27 transfer to Weimar by train

Monday, 20.02. / discovering Weimar as a city of German art, culture, history and humanism

08:00 breakfast

09:00 morning warm-up (interactive games designed at: waking-up, group interaction, acquiring basic language skills in German)

09:30 getting to know Weimar: Why is Weimar an important city for German common memory? (German Classics, Weimar Republic, Hitler's favourite city, Weimar-Buchenwald concentration camp, GDR regime) How is it linked to the topic of Human Rights?

10:30 Introduction to the topic auf Bauhaus in Weimar

12:00 splitting the group up into mixed smaller groups and handing out of tasks for the city rally of Weimar

12:00 lunch

13:30 guided tours in 3 parallel groups at Bauhaus University Campus / Bauhaus model house Haus am Horn/ Bauhaus Museum

15:00 city rally of Weimar: participants discover the city themselves solving tasks in the city and discovering places, they have to take photos and bring back information on topics linked to Weimar, taking interviews on the topic of Human Rights:

(1) German classics writers and philosophers in Weimar (Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland)

(2) Weimar Republic 1918-1933

(3) architectural movement and designers in Weimar of the BAUHAUS

(4) national socialism in Weimar

(5) socialism in Weimar: remains of the GDR

(6) art, culture, personalities in Weimar (J.S. Bach, Friedrich Nietzsche, Albert Schweitzer, ...)

18:00 presentation of the city rally findings

19:00 dinner

Tuesday, 21.02. / discovering Weimar as a city of national-socialism, barbarism and human rights’ violations

09:00 morning warm-up (interactive games designed at: waking-up, group interaction, acquiring basic language skills in German)

09:30 preparation of the visit to the Buchenwald concentration camp memorial site, introduction into national-socialist ideology

12:30 lunch

13:10 Walk to bus station Goetheplatz (Bus 6 to Buchenwald, runs at 13.45)

14:15 human rights abuse: visit of the Buchenwald concentration camp memorial site near Weimar: guided tour, persecution of political opponents, Jews, gays, Roma, foreigners etc. by the Nazi regime

16:15 transfer back to the city (Bus 6 to Goetheplatz, runs at 16.25)

18:00 feedback on the day
