Admission Counselor/Assistant Dean
Gustavus Adolphus College seeks an admission counselor/assistant dean. As a professional member of the Admission Office, this position will assist in the recruitment and selection of new students for the College. This position will actively recruit new students through personal contact via phone, email and in person; will be expected to assist the department in giving special attention to recruiting a diverse student population; represent Gustavus Adolphus College at college fairs, high school visits and other on and off campus events (day, evening and weekend) as part of the recruitment effort; travel will be a major part of the counselor’s duties; generate and evaluate applications for admission; engage with students and families during campus visits; and assist prospective students with the admission and financial aid processes both in individual and group settings.
Applicants should have a Bachelor's Degree, excellent communication, organizational and technology skills; high energy and accountability, ability to articulate the value of a liberal arts education; a genuine interest in working with diverse populations; must have a positive and optimistic attitude, be dedicated, good humored and willing to work beyond an 8:00 to 5:00 work schedule to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Assistant Dean level candidates should have a minimum of three years of related experience in college admission or a related field. Admission Counselor candidates would benefit from previous experience as a college admission tour guide or intern. Fluency in a second language (Hmong or Spanish) is highly desirable.
