Minutes of the May 12, 2015 Meeting

Diane Perry chaired the meeting. Minutes of the April 14, 2015, meeting were read and accepted.
Old Business:
1. Canoe Club -- AAB
Renovations at the Canoe Club are on-going. Latest communications from the AAB are 1) an amended decision granting the facility a deadline of April 2017 to complete requirements for toilet rooms, raised seating and egress and 2) requirements that plans for a gazebo/pergola be submitted byAugust 1, 2016, and that plans be approved, the structure be built byMarch 31, 2017. The AAB also states that facility must submit status reports every 6 months. Our committee will continue to follow communications.
New Business:
1. River Edge Housing
Diane Perry reported on visit to the rental apartments on East Center Street. There are wider hallways and larger bathrooms in apartments designated “handicap-accessible.” As previously discussed here, these are not suitable for severely disabled or persons requiring wheelchairs.
2. New Middle/High School
Marilyn Raleigh gave report on progress of school building. On June 4, 2015, at9 a.m.representatives from MOD will be at school to assess accessibility. ADA members will plan to meet with them. Marilyn also reported on issues that pertain to lack of access such as bulletin boards placed too high for disabled and shorter students to be able to see. It was suggested this is an issue to watch for, and for us to address with schools when needed.
3. Training
A 2 day session for community monitors will be held in Hyannis on June 23 and 24, 2015. No member will be able to attend.
4. DCPR
Beth Anderson reported on her attendance at meeting. One of the projects discussed was establishment of a community garden. DCPR will contact ADA about this.
5. Site Plans
1) BP Livery, 104 Turnpike Street reviewed
2) Russell Funeral Home -- proposed for 441 South Main Street
ADA makes recommendation to ZBA that state regulations require that 3 handicap
accessible spaces are required as spaces exceed 51.
6. Speaker at First Church
Information about speaker Sheila Radziewicz was provided from Rev. Ashton. Author will be speaking on Thursday, May 14, 2015. Members were encouraged to attend.
With no further business to discuss, motion was made, and seconded, to adjourn. Meeting was adjourned at3:45 p.m.The next meeting isTuesday, June 12, 2015, at2:30 p.m.
