Important Information When Considering Dual Enrollment

  1. When the college is in session, the student is expected to attend college classes. When the high school is in session, students are expected to attend high school classes. The FCS school calendar and college calendars do not always align. This can impact Fall Break and Spring Break along with other holidays.
  2. It is important for students to check with colleges they hope to attend after graduation to make sure they are meeting admissions requirements. It is important to know how the college will look at dual enrollment classes in the admissions process. The college admissions counselor is the appropriate person for answering questions specific to a college.
  3. The class schedule at the high school is determined months in advance of the school year. Students need to register for classes at the college that allow them time to travel safely to and from the college and high school. Flexibility is allowed in how the student schedules their college classes. The high school does not adjust class times to fit the college schedule.
  4. The high school transcript, HOPE funding, and college application are all exchanged and matched by the social security number. It is IMPERATIVE the social security number and legal name are all correct.
  5. High school faculty cannot intervene on the behalf of the student with college faculty and vice versa. Parents will not be able to talk with college instructors on behalf of their child. These are two separate institutions with different protocols and regulations.
  6. Ask yourself honestly: Is the student mature and responsible so they can be trusted to handle all assignments, due dates, and attendance with no parental or high school support? Does the student have missing work in high school classes? Does the student advocate for himself/herself appropriately? Does the student manage his/her time so they are punctual?
  7. First 3 required math courses (Alg. I, Geometry, Alg. II) are not available for any dual enrollment courses. Dual Enrollment approved mathematics courses are awarded core/elective credit for the fourth mathematics course requirement beyond Algebra II.
  8. Science Lab and Language Lab fees are NOT covered by Dual Enrollment funds.
  9. If a student does not return all of the books loaned to them by the college, the college will not release their transcript. The student will then receive an “F” on their high school transcript for the college courses. Returning books to the college at the end of the semester is imperative.
  10. NFHS does not determine admission to the colleges. Refer to the admissions requirements online at GAFutures.org or the college web site. Questions about college admissions and courses needed for different college majors should be directed to college personnel.
  11. Financial aid cannot be approved until all forms, including this one, are returned with appropriate signatures. This means the family would be responsible for tuition.
  12. It is advisable to stay involved in high school and extracurricular activities.
