Driving Quality Performance:-
South West Healthcare has played a significant roleover the yearsin the development of the South West Alliance of Rural Health (SWARH) which is an IT alliance involving every health service from Geelong to the South Australian border.
At SWH, as part of a Redesign program, we are applying lean thinking to improve service quality, increasing the time nurses have with the patient through reducing unnecessary processes and interruptions.
Achieving Sustainability:-
Funding was secured from the State Government to re-develop the Warrnambool Campus site. In 2011 the first patients moved to our newly finished facility, which is considered to be one of the most modern and technologically advanced health services in regional Australia.
Creating a Learning/Teaching/ResearchEnvironment:-
The redevelopment of the WarrnamboolBaseHospital has encompassed room for the DeakinUniversityMedicalSchool with their new facilities on site allowing for greater alignment of our learning environment.DeakinMedicalSchool currently accommodates 37 students.
Encouraging Service Innovation:-
In 2011 South West Healthcare sawthe installation ofa Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner; this has reduced the need for our patients to travel to Geelong and Melbourne to access this service.
Engaging our Community:-
When completed, a 12-bed Rotary House complex next to our new hospital will provide supported accommodation for patients and familiesoutside our immediate area who require either crisis accommodation or ongoing visits to South West Healthcare.

Survey Coordinator Comments to be inserted here. This section is limited to 1000 characters.

South West Healthcare has safe systems for the treatment of its patients which include the principles of care planning, handover, consumer involvement, risk management and quality improvement. It is congratulated on maintaining these standards while at the same time commissioning a beautiful set of new buildings at Warrnambool, which were built on the same site as an operational hospital and required considerable decanting and redecanting of wards and departments. Future challenges and opportunities for improvement will be presented as the co-located Deakin University Medical School becomes fully established.
