Dear Parents

May we take this opportunity to say what a pleasure it has been to welcome your children to Class 4; we all had a fantastic start to the year with our team building day, and the children came into the class last week and this, ready and eager to learn. We are all looking forward to the rest of the year with them.

Our topic this half term is Europe.

Reading

As always, we expect the children to read for 20 minutes every night, Monday to Thursday, and either Friday, Saturday or Sunday. They need to make quality entries in their reading record each time they read. By ‘quality’ we mean at least 3 sentences (or detailed bullet points) in neat, joined handwriting, with correct punctuation. The reading records are checked daily by Miss Kearvell or Mrs Deegan, who may sometimes write a question back to the children to discover more out about the book that they are reading. When your child has finished a book, they may be given a postcard to write a book review; this would be a couple of sentences about the book, what they liked/disliked about it, whether they would recommend it and why. The idea is that we are going to put these on our reading board and children can use the reviews to help them choose a new book.

Homework

A Literacy-based homework (spellings to learn for a test, or grammar to consolidate skills learnt in the week) will be sent home on a Monday and Maths homework will be sent home on a Wednesday. Both of these will be due back on the following Monday.

PE

PE will usually be on Monday and Tuesday, but we ask that kits stay in school all week – just in case they are needed.

Forest School

Class 4 will be going to Forest School on Tuesdays after Easter, and we will write to you nearer the time to remind you of the clothes that they will need for these sessions.

Swimming

Our class will be swimming after Easter and, again, we will write to you nearer the time about this.

Best wishes from all of the Class 4 staff

Mrs Rae,Miss Kerr, Miss Kearvell and Mrs Deegan
