READERS ARE LEADERS-Our class has read 1,894,842 words! The word count is based on passed AR tests (a total of 1,526).

Accelerated Reader (AR) News

We’ve had two shortened school weeks, and the following list of names reflect those with gains in AR points from Thurs., Feb. 16-Thurs., Feb. 23: Addyson, Reagan, Anthony, Amy, Eleanor, Navi, Gabrielle, Karly, Brenton, Alijah, Adrianna, Elijah, and Sascha.

These students have met, or passed, the third second-grade goal of 35 points (as of 2/23/17): Reagan, Anthony, Amy, Eleanor, Navi, Gabrielle, Karly, Brenton, Alijah, Adrianna, Elijah, and Sascha. We expect 100% of the students to reach the goal by March 10, and are encouraging them every step of the way.

Each student tracks their daily progress. Your child should have AR points written in the AVID agenda/planner every school day. The number represents the ending total for the previous day. Recording this information builds responsibility and makes students aware of their progress, allowing them to monitor and adjust their reading to aid in setting goals.

Math Facts in a Flash (MFIAF)

As with AR points, each student is to write their current level in the AVID agenda/planner each day. This is to be clear, and located in the Math section at the top of the day’s subjects (Lev.___). Mastery and fluency in basic addition and subtraction facts will lay a foundation for work in third grade.

Awesome Sauce

This week’s Awesome Sauce award goes to Elijah. He was an awesome friend and assisted classmates throughout the week.
