/ Using Books24x7 /

Books24x7 provides users with access to books from the world’s top business and information technology publishers. This search-friendly full-text resource enables users to browse, read, bookmark, and create personal folders from the most up-to-date and cutting-edge texts available in the business and IT fields.

Access: Go to the Library’s homepage at www.uncp.edu/library/. Click Electronic Resources. Click Database Title. Click the letter B and you will see a list of databases. Click Books24x7.

Registration: You will not be able to use this resource if you do not have a UNCP e-mail address. Upon accessing the database, you will need to register for a Books24x7 account. Click the icon. On the next screen, enter your UNCP e-mail address and click I Agree.

In a few moments, Books24x7 will send a temporary password to your UNCP e-mail account. After receiving the password, re-enter Books24x7 and type-in your UNCP e-mail account for Username, and type-in the temporary password for Password. Click Log in.

On the following screen you will be prompted to change your password. Type-in the temporary password, then enter your new password twice and click Update. Click I agree on the next page.

Searching and Browsing: Users may either search for specific content, or browse content areas. Use the menu on the right side of the Books24x7 home page under the heading Browse Topics to select a set of topics to browse from. By utilizing the View by: drop-down menu, you can browse books by Technical Topics, Business Topics, or by Publisher.

To search for specific content, enter some search terms into the Search: box and click GO. You may also use the drop-down menus next to the search box to limit your results to a content area or a particular collection.

You may also perform an Advanced Search for more precision searching.

Looking at Books: The results of your search will turn up a list of books on your topic. The books listed at the top are the most relevant results. To look at a book, simply click on the hyperlinked title. On the next page you will see the table of contents with links to each chapter. To navigate to a specific chapter, click on the title of the chapter. You can look through the pages of the chapter by clicking Next or Previous. You can also look at specific chapter headings by clicking on the headings at the left side of the page.

Users may bookmark specific pages in texts by clicking the bookmark icon. To include a personal note with your bookmark, click bookmark with note. After typing your note, click Create. You may also start a virtual bookshelf by clicking add to bookshelf. You can name folders to keep your books in and retrieve them at anytime by clicking My Home at the top of the page.
