A Sense of Place - Writing Project

I hope everyone managed to read my letter about our forthcoming writing project, A Sense of Place. We do need your help to persuade grandparents, friends or family who have been pupils at the School, worked here or had a close association with Edlesborough to come into school during the week of 26th March 2012 to inspire the children with their writing; what does Edlesborough mean to you? What stories would you want to tell if you came back to visit the school in the future?

We hope to be having a visit from an author during the week to help us in our work, and any parents who would like to help would be very welcome.

Mothers’ Day

Mothers’ Day celebrations will take place this year on Thursday 15th March. The format this year will, we hope, be the best of the new and the old, with mums invited to come and enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee, followed by entertainment from their child’s class and the presentation of a ‘little something’ from each child.

In order for this to run smoothly we will be holding three sessions. Mums are invited to come for the start of their session and collect a coffee. They will then be joined by the children. At the end of the session mums will be asked to leave the hall ready for the next group.

9:15 – 9: 45 am Session 1: for Reception, Years 1 & 2

9:55 – 10:30 am Session 2: for Years 3 and 4

10:40 – 11:15 am Session 3: for Years 5 and 6

To avoid congestion in the hall, mums will be asked to only attend sessions where they have a child in that year group. Mums will also be asked to leave the hall in between sessions so that we can prepare for the next session.

Mums who will be attending more than one session will be very welcome to wait in the library in between times.

We hope that this will be an enjoyable and special time for mums and children alike.

School Meals

Due to circumstances outside of our control we have had to change our school meals supplier from Cottesloe to Yes Chef, a local provider with an excellent reputation and plenty of experience in school meals provision.

We are very disappointed that Cottesloe are no longer able to provide their current hot meals service, as we have been very satisfied with the quality of food and the service they have provided. However we are confident that Yes Chef will provide equally good hot meals and we have been working to ensure that the transition will be smooth. Menus will continue to be published on the website, parents will continue to pay using parent pay, and meals can be ordered on the day as usual.

Safety in the waiting area

Can I just remind parents that the children should not be riding their scooters in the waiting area. We had a recent incident where a child was knocked down by another child riding a scooter.

World Book Day – Thursday 1st March

Just a reminder that we would like children in KS1 to come dressed as a Mr Men or Little Miss character. The theme in KS2 is Charles Dickens, but children can come dressed as any book character of their choice (it doesn’t have to be a Charles Dickens character).

FOES

Many thanks to Penny Pataky who has bravely volunteered to be our new Chair of FOES. An informal meeting took place on Monday and updates will follow shortly.

Twitter

Edlesborough School now has a Twitter account; you can follow my Head Teacher tweets at #ESheadteacher . I hope they will be a fun way of keeping you up to date with what is happening in school.

African Extravaganza

The children in Years 3 and 4 will be performing a show which will include African drumming, African dance and a dramatic performance of Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters. There will be an evening performance on Tuesday 20th March at 7 p.m. and a matinee at 2 p.m. on Thursday 22nd March. More information about costumes and tickets etc will follow nearer the time.

School Newspaper

A dedicated Year 6 team have been working hard to produce a monthly newspaper. The current one can be found on the School website under News/School newspaper.

All children are encouraged to produce entries for the newspapers e.g. stories, puzzles, jokes, poems etc.

KS1 children need to give their entries to their class teachers, and KS2 children have an ‘entry box’ in the library. Closing date for the April issue will be 30th March.

Next month’s edition will be out on Monday 5th March. Hard copies will be available to purchase from the school date at the end of one school day that week. It will also be put on the website.

Girls Football

After 6 matches the girls football team has finally finished their season.

With 2 wins, 3 draws and only 1 defeat, the girls came 3rd in the league (only beaten by two bigger Aylesbury Schools)

This is a great achievement for the team, particularly as many have only been playing for 3 months!

Well done to all the girls who took part for all their enthusiasm and effort in every match; it is a very well deserved 3rd place.
