A RESOLUTION TO CLOSE GUANTANAMO BAY
1WHEREAS:less than one percent of the over 800 detainees at Guantanamo Bay have been
2convicted by a military commission, and
3WHEREAS: human rights violations at Guantanamo Bay have become public knowledge,
4including enforced disappearance and torture, and
5WHEREAS: the purpose of the detention camp has been warped by the War on Terrorism
6efforts, and
7WHEREAS:in 2009, President Obama promised to close the base, but no action has resulted
8from that intention, and
9WHEREAS: international sentiment views the continued use of the base as both undesirable
10and hypocritical, therefore
11Be it resolved by the Student Congress here assembled:
12That the United States department of defense will close the Guantanamo Bay
13base, and the United States federal government will return the land back to
14Cuba.
A RESOLUTION TO FUND CALIFORNIA WATER TRANSPORT TUNNELS
1WHEREAS: California is in the worst drought in recorded history, and
2WHEREAS:, state and federal water projects have announced they will be able to provide, at
3best, only 55% of the agricultural industry’s water needs, and
4WHEREAS: Governor Brown has proposed a plan for underground water transport
5tunnels, but has conceded that the project cannot proceed without federal
6funding assistance, and
7WHEREAS: estimates for this project suggest that the federal government assistance
8would need to be one third of the proposed $16billion cost, therefore
9Be it resolved by the Student Congress here assembled:
10That the federal government will give $6billion to the state of California,
11earmarked specifically and exclusively for use in initiating the proposed water
12transportation tunnels.
A RESOLUTION TO BUILD A US-MEXICO BORDER WALL
1WHEREAS: immigration has increased in recent years, and
2WHEREAS: instances of undocumented immigration has concurrently increased, and
3WHEREAS: inefficient and ineffective monitoring and policing, specifically on the US-Mexico
4border, has fueled these increased, and
5WHEREAS: immigration, especially undocumented, places burdens on the nation and feeds
6public antagonism towards these individuals, therefore
7Be it resolved by the Student Congress here assembled:
8That the United States, either directly or through independent contractors, construct a
9physical wall along the US-Mexico border as a physical deterrent to immigration. The
10dimensions for this wall shall be determined by a separate committee at a later date, to a 11 degree deemed sufficient to effectively deter unwanted immigration.
