A RESOLUTION thanking the volunteers of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games for their tireless efforts and adjourning the Senate in their honor.

WHEREAS, thousands of visitors from across the globe descended on the Commonwealth in September and October 2010 for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games; and

WHEREAS, 2010 was the first time in history the Games had been held outside Europe, giving many visitors their first introduction to Kentucky and its equine culture; and

WHEREAS, the participation of thousands of highly skilled and well-trained volunteers was critical to creating a pleasant and exciting experience for the Commonwealth's guests; and

WHEREAS, the enormity of community spirit in Kentucky was such that more people volunteered than there were spaces available, a truly encouraging sign of Kentuckians' enthusiasm about the Games; and

WHEREAS, volunteer duties ranged from greeting delegates to assisting with directions to working with exhibits to involvement with the competitions themselves, a wide range of skills and abilities that relied on the tremendous variety that Kentuckians have used for two centuries to build our great Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, over the 16 days of competition, volunteers were in many cases the first face visitors saw when they arrived at the Kentucky Horse Park and a constant presence when those visitors required aid or sought help; and

WHEREAS, volunteers persevered through weather, exhaustion, language barriers, and other obstacles with grace and charisma, setting an example that improved the experience for all involved; and

WHEREAS, Kentucky presented itself as an outstanding host for the Games, technically, logistically, and otherwise, in large part due to the efforts of volunteers, who will surely be a key part of future World Equestrian Games in the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of the Senate, both individually and collectively, commend the volunteers of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games for their incredible hospitality, graciousness, and charm that made the Games such a success and sustained and promoted this Commonwealth's reputation as a magnificent host to visitors from around the world.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of the volunteers of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to John Nicholson, in care of the Kentucky Horse Park, 4089 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, Kentucky 40511; and Jamie Link, in care of the 2010 World Games Foundation, 2010 World Games Way, Lexington, Kentucky 40511.
