A RESOLUTION honoring the Lakeside Swim Club.

WHEREAS, the Lakeside Swim Club is located at 2010 Trevilian Way in Louisville, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, the Lakeside Swim Club was originally dubbed Kaelin's Quarry. In the early 1920s the Olmstead Brothers of Brookline, Massachusetts, were hired to plan a subdivision for the property surrounding the quarry. Lakeside was incorporated and certificate members first met on March 1, 1924; and

WHEREAS, Lakeside has become known for the swimming talent reared within its boundaries. Three-time Olympic gold medal winner and world champion Mary T. Meagher, otherwise known as "Madame Butterfly," competed at Lakeside. She would go on to become one of the best butterfly swimmers in the history of the event; and

WHEREAS, Lakeside has produced eight other Olympic medal winners over the years, including Mary Moorman Ryan, Ann Hardin Grimes, Clark Burkle, and Caroline Burkle, who earned a bronze medal in the 4X200 freestyle relay at the Beijing Olympics; and

WHEREAS, Lakeside's Masters Swim Team is also a force nationally. Those swimmers, aged 19 and older, have won five national titles; and

WHEREAS, the Lakeside Seahawks, a Gold Medal Swim Club, enjoy a highly respected reputation across the country. They are ranked by USA Swimming as a Gold Medal Club and were the 2008 USA Sectional Women's Long Course Champions and Team Runner-up, and the 2008 NCSA Junior National Championship Women's Team Runner-up; and

WHEREAS, Lakeside's greatest achievement over the past 90 years has been the fellowship and community pride of its membership. Family, friendship, good sportsmanship, and respect for property are major elements of the success Lakeside Swim Club has enjoyed; and

WHEREAS, this honorable body commends such organizations that work diligently to achieve success from their individual members while also offering a strong community presence. Lakeside Swim Club is one such organization, and the members of this body honor Lakeside today for the talent that has trained inside its waters and also for the indelible sense of achievement and belongingness that Lakeside's members are well-known for displaying;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate honors Lakeside Swim Club, wishes all its members best of luck as they continue to be part of this nationally known organization, and thanks the owners of the club for their diligence and their hard work on behalf of the common good of their community.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Lakeside Swim Club.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Morgan McGarvey for delivery.
