A RESOLUTION honoring the Cox Building in Maysville, Kentucky, for the distinction of being entered in the National Register of Historic Places on October 3, 2011.

WHEREAS, the National Register of Historic Places provides an official list of worthy places of preservation throughout the nation and gives recognition that there is historic, architectural, or archaeological significance within the context of the community, state, or nation; and

WHEREAS, the National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources; and

WHEREAS, because the Kentucky Heritage Council serves as the State Historic Preservation Office for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, it is the only entity in the state that is permitted to nominate state historic places to the National Register; and

WHEREAS, the Cox Building is a five-story brick Richardsonian Romanesque building built between March 1886 and February 1887, sitting within the boundary of the Maysville Downtown Historic District; and

WHEREAS, the Cox Building was designed by Cincinnati architect W. R. Brown, of Crapsey & Brown, to accommodate stores and to provide office space, and for use as a Masonic Temple; and

WHEREAS, the Cox Building holds great significance in the history of the Grayson County and Mason County communities;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The House of Representatives recognizes the Cox Building in Maysville, Kentucky, for the distinction of being entered in the National Register of Historic Places.

âSection 2. When the House of Representatives adjourn this day, it does so in honor of the Cox Building.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Ray Young, City of Maysville, 216 Bridge Street, Maysville, Kentucky 41056.
