A RESOLUTION commending the outstanding achievements of Kentucky's native son, Josh Osborne, and urging his inclusion to Kentucky Highway – U.S. 23 "Country Music Highway" signage.
WHEREAS, Josh Osborne was born July 4, 1980, in Pike County, Kentucky. Josh is a part of his family's proud heritage of living in Pike County on U.S. 23 since the 1800s that includes his parents, sister, grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great-grandparents. Josh has lived all his life on U.S. 23 in the town of Virgie, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, from a young age Josh Osborne showed his love of music and a desire to entertain, performing his first show at Virgie High School when he was three years old. As a teenager, Josh performed at the Hee Haw Reunion at Pikeville College. He has continued to perform at Robinson Creek School, Shelby Valley High School, Pikeville College, and Hillbilly Days in Pikeville, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, Josh Osborne was inducted into the Pike County Schools' Hall of Fame for his musical talent and success. He performed as the opening act for George Jones at Shelby Valley High School and Estill Soward's Homecoming at Shelby Valley High School; and
WHEREAS, Kentucky is proud of her native son, Josh Osborne, and his continued success in his country music career. 2012 and 2013 were stellar years for Josh Osborne: performing at the Grand Ole Opry with Brandy Clark; his songs "Come Over," "Merry Go Round," and "Drunk Last Night" were in the Billboard Magazine Top Ten; "Merry Go Round" was nominated for Country Music Awards Song of the Year and was winner of the 2013 Grammy Award for Song of the Year; and
WHEREAS, not only is Josh Osborne a Grammy Award winner, he has worked with and has cuts on albums by Love and Theft, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Randy Rogers Band, Gwen Sebastian, Due West, Greg Bates, and Sarah Darling. As co-writer, Josh has four Gold Records and three songs reach Platinum Record status within the past two years; and
WHEREAS, Josh Osborne's talent and career have earned him the respect and recognition of his peers in the music industry. His talent and accomplishments should be recognized by the Transportation/Tourism Interagency Committee by placing his name on the "Country Music Highway" signage;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The Senate commends the stellar accomplishments of Josh Osborne and strongly urges the Transportation/Tourism Interagency Committee to add Josh Osborne to the "Country Music Highway" signage for his outstanding achievements in music.
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in recognition and pride of Kentuckian Josh Osborne.
