A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett.
With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, Joseph M. Tackett was born September 22, 1982 in Whitehouse, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds June 23, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Joseph M. Tackett was the loving son of Wendell and Kathy Tackett; he was a loving husband of Stephanie Bryan Tackett; he was the caring brother of a sister, Kathy Spencer, and a brother, Samuel Tackett; and he also leaves behind many other loving family members; and
WHEREAS, Joseph M. Tackett graduated in 2000 from Johnson Central High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he dreamed of being a soldier; and
WHEREAS, following high school, Joseph M. Tackett attended Big Sandy Community and Technical College; following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, he decided to join the Army to fight for his country; and
WHEREAS, Joseph M. Tackett enlisted the Army in October of 2001; he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 76th Field Artillery, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division based at Fort Stewart, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett initially deployed to Iraq in January of 2002, bravely supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom; he deployed again for a second tour of Iraq in January of 2005; while in Iraq, he was in charge of escorting dignitaries through the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad; and
WHEREAS, on June 23, 2005, the life of Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett ended prematurely as the result of a non-combat injury received in Baghdad, Iraq; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett served his country with honor and distinction; he was buried with full military honors and posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett was highly regarded by all who knew him as a patriotic young man with a bright future before him; he loved to travel and enjoyed skateboarding and introducing Iraqis to American rock music; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has the highest respect for Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett and is deeply grateful for the sacrifice he made for the freedom of all Americans and to ensure the freedom of the Iraqi people; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett.
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the parents of Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett, Mr. Wendell Tackett and Mrs. Kathy Fraley Tackett, 3472 Hammond Road, Whitehouse, Kentucky 41240, and the wife of Sergeant Joseph M. Tackett, Mrs. Stephanie Bryan Tackett, 224 Pointe South Drive, Hinesville, Georgia 31313.
