ZTE Z987 MR SD Card Software Upgrade Instructions

Before the upgrade, please make sure:

a. You have downloaded the upgrade package to your computer;

b. Inserted a Micro SD card with at least 1 GB of free space into your phone.

c. You have synced all your information with your Google account, such as contacts, drive, calendar, etc.

Use menu button to sync your Google Account:

Note! Failure to sync will result in lost data that is not recoverable.

d. You have created a backup of all the pictures, video clips and documents to your computer using the USB cable and windows explorer;

On your computer, go to Computer => Z987 => Phone. Then copy the folders and files you would like to backup into your computer's hard drive:

e. You can also back up all your applications to your SD card using ZTE provided application called Backup & Restore:

Upgrade Steps:

1. Connect your device to the computer with a USB cable, on the pulled down notification menu select Install driver if you haven’t done this before on your computer:

2. Pull down the notification bar again, and click Connected as an installer.

Then select Media device (MTP) this time:

3. Copy the SW update.zip package provided by ZTE from your computer to the handset’s root directory (/sdcard/) of the storage card.

On your computer, go to Computer => Z987 => Phone. Then copy the update.zip package into this location as shown below:

4. Please keep in mind that it might take a few minutes before the actual copying starts. Open the File Manager on the handset and make sure the file has been successfully copied to the card:

5. Once file transfer is confirmed disconnect handset from PC.

! Warning: During the upgrade process the handset will not be able to make or receive calls; this includes calls to and from 911

6. To upgrade the firmware from the storage card, please follow the steps on your handset by clicking:

System updates =>

Storage card updates =>

Then Click OK

7. Click Back up& update if you did not Back up your phone. Otherwise, click Update now:

8. The handset will reboot and start the upgrade.

9. The whole upgrade process may take about 5 minutes. Please do not interrupt it. The handset will restart again when the updating finishes. This reboot may take about 10 minutes.

10. Wait until the handset starts up and the initial setup completes. Then check the software version on your device by clicking:

Confirm the Build number has updated as shown below in the red square.
