DESCRIPTION

A PRE-EMPLOYMENT POST OFFER PHYSICAL WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ALL MAINTENANCE POSITIONS. THIS OFFICE VISIT WILL BE PAID BY THE CITY OF WORTHING.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs routine and skill-based manual labor and maintenance work as it relates to municipal streets, alleys, vehicles, equipment, water, wastewater, buildings, parks and other duties as required.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Performs maintenance of municipal streets and alleys including: sweeping, grading, patching, sealing, cutting, and other forms of maintenance as may be necessary.

Performs general maintenance of city vehicles and heavy equipment such as fluid level checks, oil changes, basic tune-ups, and other forms of maintenance as may be necessary.

Performs general maintenance of municipal water system including: overall monitoring of water system, communication with municipal water provider(s) in regards to routine maintenance of system as well as potential emergency situations, annual water valve audits, replacement/installation of meters, water sample reporting to appropriate local, state, and federal agencies and other forms of maintenance as may be necessary.

Performs general maintenance of municipal wastewater system including: overall monitoring of wastewater system, daily log records, communication and reporting with local, state, and federal authorities, maintaining appropriate lagoon levels, and other forms of wastewater system upkeep as may be necessary.

Responsible for general maintenance of public buildings including, but not limited to, the following: sanitary cleaning of public restrooms, and other duties as may be necessary.

Maintains the public park system including: lawn mowing and trimming, refuse and litter collection, cleaning facilities and restrooms, athletic field maintenance, painting and/or restoration of deteriorated surfaces.

Supervise summer youth workers.

Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Also keeps an inventory on equipment and tools, including small and expendable tools.

Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Ability to communicate with maintenance supervisor, staff, commission members, regulatory agencies, and others as may be required. Must be able to work with other employees, contractors and the general public.

Must be punctual and maintain a good attendance record.

Must be in good physical condition and be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

Must be able to do medium to heavy lifting. Frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and\or move up to 100 pounds.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to work flexible hours and weekends as may be required dependent on weather, emergency situations, and unforeseen circumstances.
Perform other such duties and functions as are necessary to the proper performance of this position.

CERTIFICATION

  • Valid SD Driver's License and Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass state and federally mandated water and wastewater certifications.
  • Other certifications as may be required by local, state and federal entities\agencies.
