Another Book to Enjoy!
Thanks to Mrs. Majkowski Flynn students had a “new” book to read over Thanksgiving Break and will receive another one over Christmas Break! Thanks for hosting these book-giveaways, Mrs. Majkowski! It’s nice to know that every student will have a carefully chosen book to reach for every day over the break!!
Healthy Holidays!
Mrs. Rubeck handed out activity calendars this week to all students who would like to challenge themselves to become more physically fit over the holidays! The calendars list exercises, activities and healthy eating choices that can be done daily. Each time a student exercises and makes healthy eating choices, they write it down on the calendar (which will then be turned in after our break.) And don’t forget that this would be a great way for the whole family to become healthier! You might even want to consider taking the challenge with your child! (If, for some reason, you did not receive the calendar, please contact Mrs. Rubeck at school and she can help you out!)
PEACE Grant!
Early this week we learned that the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation granted our request for a Sharing Flynn Peace around the World grant!! We were awarded the entire amount we requested which was $250! Woo-hoo! We were told that our suggested project “fits the value added criteria of this grant cycle, and is of interest to the Trustees.” The foundation will present us with a “Big Check” sometime in January. After that you can look forward to involvement in our Sharing Peace Around the World activities. Thanks for the procurement of the grant goes to our Peace Committee! We LOVE the work you do!
Craft Days are Student Favorites
Thanks to Flynn PTA, students are offered a very fun opportunity every year. After school on 2 days in December, the cafeteria is transformed into a bustling art center where participants create holiday ‘craft’ gifts for important people in their lives. Dawn Kalla gallantly organized the 2 day extravaganza. Thank you, Dawn, we are very aware of all of the work that goes into the organization and presentation of this activity. We also know that Dawn would like to join us in thanking the many people that helped her to bring this fun afternoon to our kids. Thank you! All of you! We know from experience that this an activity children remember years later as one of their favorites!
Advisory Council Rep Needed!
Becca Heers let me know this week that she will no longer be able to keep her position as a Flynn representative on the district Parent Advisory Council. Thank you for the work you have done, Becca. We value the time you were able to volunteer. So… you know what that means. Yup… We need another volunteer to serve on the council. If you have interest and would like to find out more details about the group, just go to the school district web site and scroll down to ‘community’. Then when you’re ready to join in, just let me know and you can become part of the group!
PD Wednesdays
The Eau Claire Area School District requires all teachers to spend 1 hour every week (Wednesdays) focused exclusively on Professional Development. I just thought you might like to know that all Flynn teachers spend this time focused on the following goals:
· Improve the achievement of all students by continuously improving classroom instruction, environments, and program alignment.
· Develop a culture of learning through collaboration.
It’s nice that our school district encourages the custom of collaboration! With so much to fit into our school day now, sometimes it’s hard to find time for this all-important practice!
Flynn Flyer Soars!
We’re all very proud of past Flynn Flyer and daughter of Mrs. Trullinger, Greta, who won the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre’s 10th annual Starquest vocal competition last Saturday! Way to go, Greta! Competing in the 13 and Under Category, Greta performed “Not for the Life of Me” from the Broadway musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. She is an 8th grader at South Middle School. Yippee! Cheers for Greta!!
