A Guide to Application for 2012 Opening Project

of State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment

Opening Projectof State Key Laboratory of Electric Insulation and Power Equipment was set up todevelop high-level and substantial academic research work and exchange with researchers out of China in the field of electrical power equipment, which is also in accordance with China’s electrical engineering developing strategies. Opening Project providesopportunities to carry out pioneering, leading and high-level research work as well as academic exchange. Projects involving multiple disciplines will be highly preferred.

  1. Introduction of State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment

The State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment at Xi’an Jiaotong University of Chinawas established in 1991 and formally opened to the public in October 1995. At present, the laboratory is managed by the Director, Professor Wang Jianhua and the Director of the Academic Committee, Professor Lei Qingquan who is a member of the ChineseAcademy of Engineering.

The laboratory is supported by three national key disciplines, namely High Voltage & Electrical Insulation Technique, Electrical Machinery & Electrical Apparatus, and Power System & its Automation. It also has two additional disciplines: Power Electronics & Electrical Drive and Theory & new Technology of Electrical Engineering. The research fields of the laboratory involve: (1) Structures, properties, characterizations and applications of dielectric materials (including nano-composites, biodielectrics); (2) Electric power equipment and its intellectualization; (3) Life management of electric power equipment and its electrical insulation system; (4) Advanced technology of electrical engineering.

The laboratory maintains the policy of “Open, Flexible, Cooperative and Competitive”. We dedicate to scientific research and seek to make contributions for material preparation, structure design, manufacturing and assembly, operation management, life prediction method of electric power equipments. It has become a world-known source and base for remarkable contributions in scientific research, education, academic exchanges, and technology transfer in the general field of electric powerequipment in China.

Field II: Electric power equipment and its intellectualization

1)Theory on gas discharge

2)Arc regulating techniques and applications in different mediums

3)Novel high power switching equipments

4)Intelligent theory and technology for electric power equipment

5)Control-technology and equipment for power system

Field III: Life management of electric power equipment and its electrical insulation system

1)Optimization design theory and technology on electric power equipment insulation system

2)Deterioration and failure law of electric power equipment

3)Performance evaluation technology and characterization of electric power equipment

4)Insulation monitoring and diagnostic technology of high capacityelectric power equipment

5)Life assessment theory and life management theory of high capacityelectric power equipment

Field IV: Advanced technology of electrical engineering

1)Pulsed power and discharging plasmas

2)New energy power system and its intellectualization

3)Power electronic equipment and electric power quality control technology

4)Application of electrical engineering in the fields of biology, environmental protection and others

Special attentions will be paid on following research fields:

1)Electrical insulation under complicated and special conditions

2)Microstructure and dielectric performance of nanocomposites

3)Fundamental scientific problems on ultra-high voltage transmission systems and power equipments

4)Key scientific and technology problems on pulsed power and discharging plasmas

5)Fundamental theories and key technologies on smart grids and power equipments

6)Power systems’ transmission and integration on large scale renewable energy source

  1. Qualification and Amount

Researchersin the world working in the field of electric power equipment,including young researchers with Ph.D’s degree, are qualified to apply for the opening project.To do the application, four printed Opening Project Application Tables with signatureneed to be submitted to the laboratory before the requested deadline. Opening project will be started once it is approved by academic committee of state key laboratory and it should be finished in two years. Accommodationcan be covered by the laboratory if applicants work in our laboratory for a short time, and the laboratory’s name should be labeledon related academic achievements and publications. In addition, Opening Project also supports young staff to work as a visiting scholar out of China. Generally, grants for each project are 50000-100000RMB.
