JOB TITLE: Baker’s Assistant

LOCATION OF POST: LOAF Cafe/Bakery, 307-308 Grosvenor Road, Belfast

REPORTS TO: Baker

HOURS: 35 hours per week

SALARY: To be agreed

MAIN FUNCTION:The post calls for a hard working person, who is willing to learn and has an interest in baking. You will be working alongside our Baker helping him create quality products for sale in our cafes and through our outside catering business. He/she will work with staff and management to support and build upon our exciting brand which promotes healthy eating while creating training and employment opportunities for local people with learning difficulties.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Customer/Stakeholder
  1. Work with Baker on the preparation and cooking of bakery items for the LOAF Café/Bakery.
  2. Once trained be responsible for the production of our scones, tray bakes and certain other bakery items.
  3. Prepare mixes and ingredients for Baker to help speed up process and enable us to increase production levels and times.
  4. Work with the guidance of our Baker to ensure that all food is prepared and presented to a consistently high standard and ensure that these standards are maintained in line with company policy and branding guidelines.
  5. Support NOW catering students through provision of training and assessment opportunities in conjunction with training staff.
  • Finance
  1. Ensure portion control and minimisation of wastage to maintain profit margins.
  2. Check in deliveries and supplies to ensure maintenance of quality and value for money.
  3. Follow organisational guidelines in place for the ordering, receipt, issue and usage of all stocks and materials.
  • Internal Processes
  1. Comply with organisational, and legal codes of practice and conduct.
  2. Ensure the highest level of hygiene standards are maintained and monitored frequently and that LOAF retains its Scores on the Doors recognition.
  3. Ensure the notification to Senior Management of any untoward incident / accident involving either staff or trainees, and the recording and reporting of any such incident / accident to the appropriate authorities.
  • Learning & Growth
  1. Contribute to the development and maintenance of innovative bakery items for LOAF which ensure high customer satisfaction, in conjunction with the LOAF Head Chef.
  2. Meet Key Performance Indicators and participate in annual appraisals and regular team meetings.
  3. Undertake any training as deemed necessary by Senior Management and carry out any other duties as deemed appropriate to the post by Senior Management

  1. Ensure the implementation and observance of Health and Safety Regulations including Fire, Hygiene H.A.C.C.P and C.O.S.H.H and timely completion of appropriate records as agreed with LOAFCatering Manager.

2. Qualifications /
  1. Bakery or Patisserie qualification
  2. NVQ Level 2 Catering & Hospitality or equivalent eg City & Guilds
  3. Essential Food Hygiene Certificate
  4. A1 / A2 Assessor Award or prepared to work towards same.
  5. Intermediate food Hygiene Certificate or willing to work towards same

3. Experience /
  1. An interest in baking and some experience in a baking environment (either at home or in a paid/unpaid environment).

  1. Experience of working with adults with a learning disability
  2. At least 2 years paid experience working as a cook/baker within a busy catering environment

4. Knowledge / 8. Sound knowledge of Health and safety Procedures including COSHH & HACCP
