The following rules will be enforced in the league. There will not be officials or linesman. Teams are responsible for making all in/out, net violation, and illegal contact calls. If a call cannot be made or agreed upon, the point will be replayed. USVBA rules will be used, including and altered by the following:

A.  GENERAL RULES

1.  A team must have four players to begin and finish a game, and both genders must be represented. There will be NO female hit rule.

a.  These are the only allowable combinations:

·  If playing with four players: 2M-2F; 1M-3F; 3M-1F

·  If playing with five players: 2M-3F; 3M-2F

·  If playing with six or more players: 3M-3F; 2M-4F; 1M-5F. You can not play with more than 3 males

b.  Players must alternate male/female in the rotation when possible. Substitutions are allowed.

c.  There is no “ghost” rule or penalty for playing short players in sand volleyball.

d.  If at least four players (from the allowable combinations above) are not present within five minutes after the scheduled time of the match, the team will forfeit game number one. If a team has less than four players after fifteen minutes of match time, all games for that match will be forfeited.

2.  A Single game is 21 points with rally scoring; a winner must lead by two or be the first team to reach the 23 point cap (You do not need to win by two if the game is decided by the 23 point cap.).

3.  Teams will be scheduled to play four- game matches. A 60 minute time limit will be in effect for each match. If you reach the 60 minute time limit before finishing game 4, the team leading will receive credit for the win.

4.  Team standings will be kept based on games won / lost. If a tie exists at the end of the season, we will look at head to head competition. If there is still a tie, we will flip a coin.

5.  There is no tobacco allowed on the premises (including smokeless). Beer, soft drinks, food items, etc. are allowed, but please keep them off of the volleyball courts and dispose of your trash before leaving the park. Hard liquor is not permitted. Underage drinking (under 21) WILL NOT BE ALLOWED OR TOLERATED. If a member of your team is caught abusing the rule, your team will be removed from the league.

6.  Absolutely no contact with the net will be permitted. A player may follow through above the net and block above the net as long as they do not touch the net and they land in their own court. However, there is no center line. Fault will be called only if a player impedes a defensive or offensive play from the other team by crossing what would be the center line.

7.  The team listed first on the schedule will be considered the home team and will serve first the first game. Teams will alternate first serve in the following games and will also change court sides for each game.

8.  Contact with the ball, weather digging, setting or spiking, must be instantaneous or will be called a carry. A contact may be made with any part of the body.

9.  No timeouts will be allowed unless someone is injured.

10.  Simultaneous faults/illegal contacts by opposing players will offset and the point will be replayed.

11.  The defensive team may not block or spike a serve. Teams may set a serve but contact must be instantaneous.

12.  A served ball that contacts the net and goes over will be considered a legal serve.

13.  Balls that land on the out of bounds line will be considered a legal serve.

14.  Players must be at least 16 years old to participate in this league. All players will be required to sign their teams roster / waiver sheet prior to participating.

15.  Children / spectators attending matches should remain outside the play/sand area.

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION & AWARDS

1.  A seeding single elimination tournament will follow the completion of the regular season if the weather/schedule allows. Tournament matches will be best of 3 games to 25 points with rally scoring.

2.  Tournament champions will receive championship t-shirts. If a post season tournament is unable to be held, the regular season league champions will receive the t-shirts.

3.  Ties for league standings will be broken by prior head-to-head competition. If there is still a tie, we will flip a coin to determine placing.

** We are planning on playing crossover games with teams involved in the

Garner Sand Volleyball League toward the end of the season.**
