A+ College Ready is a division of the A+ Education Partnership. A+ College Ready was founded in 2008 to dramatically increase the number of students in Alabama taking math, science, English, and social studies Advanced Placement courses, earning qualifying scores on AP exams, and attending and succeeding in college. It also works to expand computer science principles to prepare more students for 21st-century careers.A substantial part of the work of A+ College Ready is teacher training for both Advanced Placement courses and preparatory courses leading to AP work. A+ College Ready develops curriculum materials that teachers can use with their students and strongly supports teachers as they implement the training and use the materials. This teacher support is the primary responsibility of our content directors.

Experience & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimal) in a field of social studies or secondary education with a concentration in a social studies field; composite social studies certification is preferable
  • Current or former success in an Advanced Placement social studies program (preferred) and/or extensive knowledge of Advanced Placementand/or extensive knowledge of curriculum vertical alignment
  • Experience in teaching multiple social studies courses and vertical articulation/alignment
  • Minimum of 5 years classroom experience
  • History of leadership in adult professional learning, mentoring and/or curriculum development
  • Strong people skills including willingness to be a contributing member of a collaborative team
  • Knowledge of current research regarding trends in educational reform
  • Proficiency in the use of technology tools and applications including Google Drive, Microsoft Office, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility- Oversee the development, implementation, and sustainability of A+ College Ready’s E3 social studies grades 6-10 program
  • Serve as an expert content resource to middle and high school teachers, including, but not limited to, classroom visits, online support, and additional professional development
  • Assist teachers in implementing E3 Social Studies infused curricula, and help identify potential resources to aid in this process.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with supported teachers and be responsible for fielding emails and phone calls on a regular basis.
  • Lead curriculum development and ongoing revision efforts of middle and high school courses aligned with Alabama’s College and Career Ready Standards
  • Promote vertical team meetings in supported schools by preparing materials and offering training to school-site personnel.
  • Assist in the design and execution of teacher professional development.
  • Assist teachers and school leaders in the attaining specific school and A+ College Ready goals
  • Review pertinent data to assist teachers and school leaders in ensuring student access to more rigorous social studies courses
  • Help ensure that the quality of available resources, including those posted on the A+ College Ready website, meets the needs of teachers, school leaders and other key audiences.
  • Help identify and develop well-qualified potential teacherleaders across the state.
  • Collaborate as needed with A+ College Ready partner agencies.
  • Represent A+ College Ready in a professional capacity when working with school leaders and district personnel.
  • Directly support A+ College Ready Program Schools/Pipeline Schools in the area of Advanced PlacementUS History and Government and Politics and social studies in grades 6 – 10.
  • Work closely with the current A+ College Ready AP social studies content director to develop a seamless curricular and instructional plan for grades 6 – 12.
  • Plan the program, secure all presenters, and execute fall one day workshop for grades 6-10 social studies teachers in collaboration with the logistics staff
  • Participate in new program school recruitment, site visits, school orientation, etc.
  • Commit to continuous professional improvement including setting challenging and measureable personal improvement goals, staying abreast of current research and best practices, and collaborating with A+ College Ready team members to improve the quality and outcome of the organization’s goals

Salary:

  • 12 month contract
  • Salary range dependent on applicant’s education, experience, etc.
