Week 7: Faith, Freedom and the will of God!

5“This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.” Exodus 4: 5

God called Moses to return to Egypt to set His people free. A covenant with God promised to make Abraham’s descendants, the Israelites, a large and mighty nation. God ALWAYS keeps His covenant promises. There were many Israelites in Egypt, and the Pharaoh made them all slaves. God wanted to save His people, so He told Moses to go before Pharaoh and tell him to “Let My people go”. Moses listened to God and agreed to go to Pharaoh. Even with his doubts, Moses was a seeker. Moses was the leader through whom God brought the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt, constituted them a nation and brought them within reach of the land promised to their forefathers.

Best Self Theology defines “What Makes a Seeker?”

  1. The desire to be real
  • Raised in an environment of privilege as an Egyptian, but still identified with his people, the Israelites.
  1. A feeling of being called
  • God tells Moses: And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.” Exodus 3:12
  1. The courage to step into the unknown
  • ‘And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt and see whether they be yet alive…….” Exodus 4:18
  • ‘And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt; and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.” Exodus 4:20
  1. The refusal to be fooled by temptations/illusions
  1. The need to feel fulfilled
  1. The ability to go beyond material satisfactions
  1. The desire for higher levels of existence.

(Points 4-7 to be discussed and filled in by class. Give examples that indicate you are a seeker)

Best Self Theology teaches that when I look around and know that reality is shaped by my conscious participation, seeking has reached its goal. I am a Co-creator!
