It’s kicks and trips in 2006

The annual meeting was well attended with attendance of about 80 people. The motion to amend the bylaws was passed. Ray Stewart and Dave Gutowski were reelected for another 3 year term. The new board members elected were Rob Ponder for a 3 year term and Rich Fater for 2 years to fill a vacancy. The decorations for the holiday season were once again beautiful.

This year committee persons will be as follows. Dock chairman – John Armatis. Entertainment chairman – Mike Garf. Fleet Captain – Rob Ponder. Grounds chairman – Ralph Pennybacker. Membership – Ray Stewart.

We have enjoyed making new friends through the 2005 commodores and ladies we met and are looking forward to making more during the 2006 year.

I attended Sun Parlor’s commodore’s ball without Lady Tami due to the illness of her brother.

Lady Tami and I would like to thank all of you for your cards and calls relaying your sympathy for our recent losses of Lady Tami’s brother, Norm Ashton, and the passing of my mother, Elva Berry

If you hear of an illness, concern or loss of a member or someone in a member’s family, please call and let me know. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 734-675-4261 or 734-231-9032.

SAFETY AND EDUCATION

Hello, my name is Richard Fater and I am glad to be writing this article as one of your newly elected board members.

I would like to thank all of you that chose to vote for me, and introduce myself as the new Safety and Education chairman for the club this year.

I do not have a specialty in the background of safety or education but intend to take some time and effort to do some research. My first article is rather lengthy so I have printed some copies and made them available at the clubhouse. It is an article that I have copied from the News-Herald that talks about Governor Granholm, 7 other states and 2 provinces of Canada that are pushing to stop the withdrawal and shipping of our water in the Great Lakes.

My second article is from the Detroit News on Dec 25th, it talks about (ocean going freighters in the lakes) a study that was conducted comparing the amount of money that is gained. $55 million in trade compared to how much is spent trying to control the invasive species taking over our Great Lakes. $200-500million spent by governments. Scientists have confirmed 182 new species since 1959 when the St. Lawrence Seaway was opened, a 2,342 mile network of 15 ports that stretch all the way to Montreal and connects to the Atlantic Ocean.

Please keep an eye on the channel marker to sign up for some great classes that I’m hoping to put together. One of the most important being the Defibrillator. It would be nice if everyone in the club could use this great life - saving piece of equipment.

Thank you

Richard Fater
