WOODEN EUROPE: yesterday, today, tomorrow

The main objectives of the Project are to cultivate public spirit, to promote close collaborations amongst artists from different countries, to promote cultural exchange, cooperation between publishing houses, participating in the Project, also to encourage youths of participating cities to participate in the Project by photographing or drawing or otherwise recording the wooden heritage of their cities.

The aim of the Project is to photograph the surviving heritage of wooden architecture in European cities; residential and public buildings, individual wooden details and to draw the attention of the society to the conservation and preservation of the wooden heritage. Another purpose of the Project is to compare the understanding of cultural values, the importance of their preservation amongst citizens of the EU, to exchange material on wooden heritage. The Project also strives to encourage the citizens of the EU to take interest in their cultural heritage and its preservation.

The Project also anticipates the organization of workshops for members of this Project: photographers, youth. The aim of these workshops is to discuss the course and progress of the works, to determine goals and priorities of every member of the Project.

The Project shall continue from September 2008 until February 2010.

Schedule (tentative, to be discussed among the participants)

September 2008

The Project is to be launched at a meeting of its participants. The drafting of plans and schedule for the Project is to take place at this meeting.

Each participating party elects several photographers. This group of photographers shall record wooden architecture in countries of participating parties.

The work on the intended internet page is to commence at the beginning of the Project.

March – May 2009

Photographer workshops, the photographing of wooden heritage, compilation of materials are to happen. Then the collected material shall pass a screening, a traveling exhibition shall be prepared.

The preparation of the exhibitions to be presented in unusual locations around towns – house walls, etc.

Discussions on the peculiarities, differences and similarities of wooden heritage in different countries.

The announcement of the contest “My Wooden Town” for schoolchildren and youths.

June 2009

The exhibitions start their journey through participant countries. The exhibition shall visit the countries of all participants and the tour is to end October 2009.

August – September 2009

The collected materials are to be screened once again and albums are to be compiled.

Two sorts of albums are to be prepared: one by native photographers and another by visiting photographers.

The management of the archives of all collected material.

The internet page is to be finished; the collected materials are to be made accessible through it.

Discussion of accomplishments.

October 2009

The printing of the albums.

December 2009

The meeting of participants, discussions of the traveling exhibition.

Also, the published albums are to be presented as gifts to libraries of participating cities.

The announcement of results of the contest “My Wooden Town”.

Discussions of the project, its benefits, contribution to cultural cooperation between EU countries and contribution to the wider understanding and knowledge of wooden heritage amongst EU citizens.

February 2010

The Ending of the project.
