GENERAL

1. Chorus Fall Concert - The Chorus Classes of West Forsyth will present their Fall Concert on Tuesday, October 16th at 7:00pm in the West Forsyth Performing Arts Center (PAC). The concert is free however donations will be accepted during the concert. The concert will feature student solos, selections from the musicals Newsies, Pocahontas and A Chorus Line.

2. Students taking math 2nd semester and at the Career Center/Forsyth Tech need to come by guidance to get your room assignment for the PSAT test Wednesday, October 17, 2012. It is very important that you get this information before test day.

3. The Childrens' Cancer Support Club is collecting Yoplait lids to save lives through cancer research. Each lid is worth 10 cents. Our goal for West Forsyth is a minimum of 1000 lids. Plastic bags with a pink ribbon can be found in rooms all over campus. Place your lids in these bags between now and Christmas. Help us reach our goal and show how much West Forsyth students care.

4. WEST FORSYTH STAFF -Lend a Hand (or two) To Stop Bullying- Next Thursday 18th and Friday 19th in the hallway of the 500 building you will be able to show the world the hands that have touched millions of hearts. For a dollar a hand (proceeds go to Friends of Rachel) you can put your hand prints (with your signature) on the wall for all to see. This is open to students also, but we would like for staff to “point the way“… Please encourage your students to follow your example. PS-We will have soap and water for clean up for the water paint.

5. The PTSA will be selling raffle tickets on 10/19, 10/26, 11/2 and 11/9 during all four lunch periods to interested students and staff. Tickets will be sold for $1.00 each or $5.00 for 7 tickets. Winners will be drawn on all four Friday dates at the end of the lunch periods for a $25.00 gift card. The $25.00 prize items could be a gift card to a restaurant, frozen yogurt place or itunes. The $25.00 prizes will vary each Friday. We will also be drawing for a Grand Prize $100.00 Hanes Mall gift card on 11/9. All purchased tickets from all four sale dates will be eligible for the grand prize. All proceeds from the raffle will go to the WFHS PTSA Titan Leadership Direct Donation campaign. SENIORS

1. Seniors who will have English 2nd semester, please check the spelling of your name and initial by your

name on the list in Guidance. It is extremely important that you do this ASAP.

GUIDANCE

1. Extended Day Sign Up- Students (11th & 12th) especially 12th graders needing to make up courses

failed for graduation can sign up in guidance. Please make an appointment to meet with your counselor.

The Extended Day Program will start 2nd quarter (November 1, 2012 thru January 16, 2013).

No transportation will be provided. The hours are 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The deadline for signing up

is October 19, 2012.

3. Our school system is sponsoring a Scholarship Night that will provide information on scholarships and

financial aid. It will be Thursday, October 18 at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Education Building on

4801 Bethania Station Road. Mr. Tom Benza from Wake Forest University's Financial Aid Office will be the

presenter. Parents of seniors are encouraged to attend.

4. *Wake Forest University is having an open house called NEAR & FAR created just for high school students and families from Forsyth and surrounding North Carolina counties, Monday November 5, 2012.

5. *West Forsyth will be participating in College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC)'s College Application

Week on Wednesday, November 14, 2012. Guidance counselors, admissions representatives from Salem

College and a representative from CFNC will be assisting senior students in submitting an application

online to a North Carolina college or university throughout the day in the library. Seniors may come to

guidance from October 22th - November 2nd to register to participate in this event. Students may also

sign up in their English Class.

6. * VMI New Cadet Recruiting Reception- There will be an informational program on Monday, 29 October,

6:30 PM - 8:30 PM in Greensboro at Embassy Suites Greensboro – Airport, 204 Centreport Drive,

Greensboro, North Carolina 27409 (Intersection of I-40 and NC 68) about the VMI admissions process

and the educational system. Members of the VMI staff and current Cadets will also be in attendance.

7. *Interested in obtaining a competitive score on the SAT or raising your SAT score? Perform up to your

potential on the SAT and learn strategies for successfully taking tests and mastering daily coursework.

It is not too late to register for the next SAT prep Series offered at Salem College. The classes are small

and are held in an academic setting. Option II courses are completed prior to the December 1, 2012 and

January 26, 2013, SAT testing dates. Students/parents can call 336.721.2855 to register.

CLUBS

1. Those who are volunteering for the Buddy Walk this year through their service clubs or on their own can

come by Room 1028 and sign for a slot with Mr. Egan.

2. Dance Honor Society- Mandatory meeting for all current and interested members next Monday,

October 15th at 4:00pm. You must be at the meeting to be a member this year. Please see Mrs. Cook

with questions.

3. Girls' Service Club: Our next meeting is in the media center at 3:45 on Tuesday, October 16. Mark your

calendar! This is a VERY important meeting; any club members wishing to help with the November blood

drive MUST attend.

4. The Red Cross Club will meet on Tuesday, October 16 at 3:45 in room 2106. We will vote for officers and

discuss fall plans. Please make sure you have an "It's My Call" form on file, and bring $5.00 for dues.

All are invited.

5. Attention all animal lovers: There will be a meeting on October 25, at 4 pm in room 407 to see if

students have an interest in forming a student club in conjunction with the Forsyth Humane Society. We

will meet for about an hour to discuss the goals of the club and to fill out the Inter-Club Council

paperwork. This club is a great opportunity to help promote animal welfare in our community. The

educational liaison for the FHS will be in attendance. See Miss Gould if you have questions. We would love

to see Staff there too!

6. *Titan Achiever's meeting will be on Wednesday, October 17 in the Media Center.

7. *Key Club's annual UNICEF fundraiser starts on October 15 and runs through October 31. Donate to your

3rd period A-day class to help eliminate childhood killer diseases worldwide. The class who raises the

most money will be rewarded with a pizza party! Help us reach our goal of $1000!

SPORTS

1. Anyone interested in trying out for JV or Varsity GIRLS basketball, please pick up and turn in eligibility

papers in pod room 2205.
