BOARD OF EDUCATION
June 27, 2016
President Kathy Parker presented the retirees with certificates from the Governor’s Office. A
breakfast was served in honor of the retirees.
The Braxton County Board of Education met on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. at the
Board office. The following members were present:

Dave Hoover, Vice President

Kathy Parker called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m.
Elizabeth Stewart moved to convene into executive session under 6-9A-4 (2)(A) to
discuss personnel and legal matters. Dave Hoover seconded the motion.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
The Board convened into executive session at 8:05 a.m.
Van Carr moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to reconvene into regular session. Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
The Board reconvened into regular session at 8:30 a.m. with no action taken.
Kathy Parker offered a non-denominational prayer.
There were no delegations or public concerns.
Deputy Luke Johnson reported that there will be an Active Shooter Training at 8:00 on July
12 and 13, 2016 at BCHS.
Van Carr moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to approve the Consent Agenda Items
(Approval of June 8, 2016 Meeting Minutes, Payment of Bills, Budget Transfers and
Supplements, Transportation Requests, Treasurer’s Report, Permission to attend Calhoun
County Schools from Braxton County, Permission to attend Webster County Schools from
Braxton County).
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following
Employment/Reassignments – Professional:
1. Carla Mauser – Coordinator of Pre-School and Head Start Programs in the Central Office
effective July 1, 2016
2. James Oates – Eagles Experience Teacher at BCHS effective the beginning of the 2016-17
school year
3. Megan Facemire – 4th Grade Teacher at Sutton Elementary effective the beginning of the
2016-17 school year
4. Rebecca Davis – Substitute Teacher effective beginning of the 2016-17 school year
5. Richard “J.R.” Roach – Substitute Teacher effective beginning of 2016-17 school year
6. Erica Perdue – 4th Grade Teacher at Burnsville Elementary effective the beginning of
the 2016-17 school year
7. Mary Ramsey – 3rd Grade Teacher at Burnsville Elementary effective the beginning of the
2016-17 school year
8. Duane Williams – 6th Grade Teacher at Little Birch Elementary effective the beginning of
the 2016-17 school year
9. Leatha Williams – Director of Assessment and Accountability/Technology and Foodservice
at the Central Office effective July 1, 2016
10. Justin Whitford – Principal of Davis Elementary effective July 1, 2016
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Elizabeth Stewart moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the employment/
reassignments – Service:
1. Wilma Rhodes – Special Education Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide
(Itinerant) at Burnsville Elementary effective the beginning of the 2016-17 school year
2. Melissa Jones – Special Education Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide
(Itinerant) at BCMS effective the 2016-17 school year
3. George Dennison – Bus Operator (Iris Fowler’s Run) effective the beginning of the 2016-
17 school year
4. Michael Singleton – Bus Operator (George Dennison’s Run) effective the beginning of
the 2016-17 school year
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Van Carr moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the following rescission of
termination of contracts for the 2016-17 school year:
1. Dawn Nottingham – Pre-K Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide/ECCAT at
Burnsville Elementary
2. Kathy Facemire – Special Education Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide
(Itinerant) at BCHS
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Elizabeth Stewart moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following request to have
name added to Substitute Administrator and Substitute Teacher Lists effective 2016-17 school
year:
Denver Drake
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Van Carr moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to approve the following extracurricular
assignments:
1. Christian Oney – Unpaid Assistant Football Coach at BCHS effective 2016-17 sport
season
2. Mickey Skeens – Unpaid Volunteer Cross Country Track Coach at BCMS effective
2016-17 sport season
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following request to have
name removed from Substitute Teacher List effective June 28, 2016:
Catricia Martin
Vote Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Van Carr seconded to approve Travelers Insurance as the
Worker’s Comp carrier for FY17
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to adjourn.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 8:49 a.m.
The next regular meeting of the Braxton County Board of Education will be held at 5:00
p.m. on July 5, 2016 at 98 Carter Braxton Drive, Sutton.
