Patients have the right to choose the healthcare professional they wish to see and the staff at our reception desk will assist you in making appointments to see a doctor or practice nurse, take requests for repeat prescriptions and offer help and assistance to any queries you may have.

They are committed to making the best arrangement that suits you, bearing in mind the need of all our patients. It is a legal requirement that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times and all our staff are trained in maintaining this responsibility to the highest degree.

Patient Confidentiality and Information Management

We take very seriously our responsibility for ensuring that we keep confidential any data included in your medical record. The practice has been fully computerised since 1988. It helps us to work more efficiently and safely. The information is held on a strictly confidential basis. Information is shared amongst the practice team on a ‘need to know basis’. We will only disclose information to clinicians (e.g. hospital doctors) who are not part of the practice team with your explicit consent and we only disclose information to third parties (e.g. insurance companies) with your written consent. A separate practice leaflet is available which provides detailed explanations of our Confidentiality and Information Management policies.

As part of the practice's contribution to medical research, we provide completely anonymised patient-level treatment information to certain reputable third party organisations. No individual is ever identified from the information and all patients stand to benefit from this work. If you would like more information about this please contact Dr Brown.

Suggestion Box

If you have any suggestions to help improve our service then please leave details in the suggestion box located in the waiting area.

Keeping you up-to-date with what’s happening in the surgery

We publish a bi-monthly newsletter to keep you up-to-date with developments in the surgery. Further information is available from notice board items and leaflets in the waiting room.

Wakefield District Primary Care Trust

King’s Medical Practice is not a limited partnership, and is a practice contracted to Wakefield District Primary Care Trust (WDPCT), White Rose House, West Parade, Wakefield. WF1 1LT. Telephone 01924 213050.

WDPCT also holds the responsibility for the out of hours service to our patients, which is currently provided by west Yorkshire Urgent care Service (WYUCS)

Violent or abusive patients

In the interests of our staff and patients the surgery upholds a policy of zero tolerance towards any patient who is threatening, violent or abusive whilst at the surgery or when a health professional makes a home visit. Such patients may be reported to the police and/or removed from the practice’s list. Patients removed from the practice list will be informed in writing of the reasons for removal and the action they need take to register at another surgery.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU WANT TO……

Register as a new patient

New patients wishing to join the surgery are requested to complete a health questionnaire and then arrange an appointment to see our practice nurse. The nurse then carries out a health check and introduces you to the services the surgery offers.

Make an appointment

Appointments can be made by telephoning 0844 8151340 and choosing option1 or you can call in person at the surgery.

The practice has an ‘Advanced Access’ appointments system. This aims to be able to offer you an appointment on the day you contact us or the following day. We do also have a number of appointments throughout the week, which are for ‘routine’ or ‘follow-up’ appointments. These can be booked up one month in advance. Using this system we hope to be able to offer you an appointment when you wish to be seen.

Should you be unable to keep an appointment, please inform us a soon as possible as this will allow us to offer the appointment to someone else.

Offered a telephone consultation

The surgery offers telephone consultations with our doctors. When you ring for an appointment you may be offered (or you can request) a ‘telephone consultation’. The doctor will then ring you at the agreed time to discuss your problem.

Telephone consultations are shorter than surgery consultations and therefore are best for simple things, which can be easily dealt with over the telephone.

If for the any reason the doctor is unable to call you at the arranged time then someone from the surgery would contact you and rearrange your appointment.

Request a home visit

To request a home visit please telephone before 10 am for a same day visit. We only visit you if you are too ill to come to the surgery. Please give the member of staff taking your call as much information as possible to enable the surgery to prioritize home visits.

We do restrict home visits to those who are too ill to come to the surgery, as several patients can be seen at the surgery in the time it takes to do one home visit.

How to contact a doctor when the surgery is closed

To contact a doctor when the surgery is closed you should telephone the visit request telephone number – 0345 6059999 and your call will automatically be diverted to West Yorkshire Urgent Care Service. All telephone calls to the service are recorded.
