Annette Oxberry’s Recovery / We pray for the repose of the soul of Canon Brian O’Sullivan who died on Friday 21st. Canon Brian, as many of you will remember, was greatly involved in the work of Ecumenism here and in all the other parishes that he served in our Diocese. He was unwell for a number of years and lived his later life in Steyning. Funeral arrangements are as follows:
Monday 7th Sept: 7pm Vigil Mass. Christ the King Church, Bramber Road, Steyning BN44 3PB.
Tuesday 8th Sept: Noon, Funeral Mass. St Andrew and St Cuthman Church, Vicarage Lane, Steyning BN44 3YL (by kind permission of the Bishop of Chichester).
On Sunday 6th Sept we will celebrate our Parish mass for Canon Brian’s repose. It will, I hope, provide many of you who are unable to travel to Steyning for his funeral an opportunity to pray for him in our parish.
This week
No Mass on Monday.
Thursday – Feast of St Gregory the Great
Friday - Solemnity: St Cuthbert
As we celebrate our Patron next weekend we are transferring the Feast of St Cuthbert to Saturday evening Mass, with extracts from the scriptures which will help us focus on his ministry and life.
Next Saturday
At 2pm at The Assumption we celebrate the marriage of Lucy Morris and Aaron Shannon. We wish them much happiness in their married life.
At 3.45pm we begin our Parish Family Social which runs through until 11pm. Please see the details overleaf – and do make sure you buy your tickets this weekend.
After the wedding, and as part of Saturday’s events, you can visit my garden. There have been a number of requests to have an ‘open garden’. It will not be anything formal but will be an opportunity to see how it is maturing after three years and perhaps provide inspiration for your own gardens!
Next weekend also sees the launch of Family Groups at all three Masses. Please be ready to sign up and be involved. Kat Pond, Parish Family Groups Project Officer, will be here to lead us in this work.
Year of Mercy. You will, I hope, have noted the call by Pope Francis for a ‘Year of Mercy’ beginning later this year. Bishop Richard has invited all clergy to attend a seminar in October in Sussex in preparation for the year. Our close neighbours, St Dunstan’s in Woking are hosting an evening with Fr Timothy Radcliffe on 1st October at 7.30pm as a preparation for us all. You may wish to attend this evening. Details on the notice boards.
We welcome Fr Robert from our neighbours in Sunningdale who will celebrate our 11am Mass this weekend.
