9.58.1 SYSTEM SUMMARY

Sarasota County has an E9-1-1 system consisting of a Primary PSAP and a Secondary PSAP. The Secondary PSAP also operates as a Backup center.

9.58.1.1 SARASOTA COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS CENTER PRIMARY PSAP

The Primary PSAP is a consolidated multi-agency center operating under the joint administration of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Services Department.

The Public Safety Communications Center (PSCC) direct dispatches all fire, medical, and law enforcement calls for the Sheriff’s Office, City of Venice, Longboat Key, and City of Sarasota. Additionally, the PSCC direct dispatches fire and rescue calls for Englewood Fire Control District, Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department, and North Port Fire-Rescue.

9.58.1.2 NORTH PORT POLICE DEPARTMENT SECONDARY / BACKUP PSAP

All law enforcement calls within the jurisdiction of the City of North Port are transferred using the Call-Handling System. During standard operations, the North Port Communications Center (NPCC) operates as a Secondary PSAP. The NPCC will activate as a Backup Center only upon evacuation of the Primary PSAP.

9.58.2 SYSTEM MANAGEMENT

Management of the Sarasota County 911 System is shared by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Services Business Center. The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for management of the personnel and operations of the center. Emergency Services is responsible for PSAP equipment, technology, fiscal management, mapping and addressing functions. The responsible fiscal agent for the county is the Board of County Commissioners (BCC).

9.58.3 INTERLOCAL AGREEMENTS

Sarasota County has two interlocal agreements with the adjoining counties of Charlotte and Manatee.

· Sarasota County provides the call routing function for the Englewood area. Since the Englewood Fire Control District extends into Charlotte County an agreement is necessary to define the responsibilities of each county and establish operational procedures.

· Manatee County provides the call routing function for the Myakka and Longboat Key areas. Since the Myakka Fire District and the Town of Longboat Key extend into Sarasota County an agreement is necessary to define the responsibilities of each county and establish operational procedures.
