PRESIDENTS CORNER

Well, the picnic was a huge success. Without the tanks present, the back was a little windy. But with a little ingenuity, we set the BBQ between the buildings and found success. We moved the tables inside, and with low temperatures, we chowed down. The company was fantastic and the food was great. Bingo gave many fabulous slabs to many people and in the end we all had a great time. If you missed, don’t miss next year! We had a ball!!!

Election time is close at hand and our November business meeting is very important. Please come and help us select next years officers.

Our Vice President, Charlie is back from Hawaii. Although he’s in deep trouble for not taking us all; he had a great time, and has many wonderful stories, and photo’s, about the wedding of his granddaughter and the beautiful island itself. Can you believe, no one sacrificed him to the volcano Goddess; I just don’t understand. They got him on top of the volcano, at dawn, “To see the sun rise!” “Har, har!” Doesn’t anyone follow up on bribes anymore?

Your President,

John Bauer

AUTUMN

The time of each year that snaps us awake.

Out of the doldrums of late summers bake.

The switch that is thrown, for trees, colors to make.

And families unite for activities sake.

The chill in the morn' being quiet refrain.

Warm afternoons have natures disdain.

The drone of the bee in its last search for nectar.

The squirrels stock their nests as winters protector.

The smell in the air of hot cider, and burnt leaves.

Makes us rejoice in the brilliance of the trees.

The tweak on your skin by a chill in the morning.

Is all you will get of a cold winters warning.

So enjoy the crisp air, the colors, the feelings.

Of Autumns great show and its ex-cited dealings.

Reflect on this time, it is special and dear.

And oh so short to exist, as the best time of year.

In Loving Memory of

Carol Marie Stote

Resident of Bethel Island Carol Stote passed away peacefully on July 19 from complications following a stroke. Carol was born in West Virginia to Stanley and Hazel Spotts, and was raised in Oakland and Castro Valley, graduating from Castlemont High in 1956 where she was active in girl's sports and choir. She went on to attend The California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland where she became a commercial artist working all around the Bay Area and retiring from the Emporium in their advertising department. Carol had a love of the outdoors, and took her young children on many rock hunting expeditions as part of Fremont's Rock Club, where she met her husband George. Upon coming to the Antioch area she and George joined the Antioch Lapidary Club and continued their hobby. Combining her artistic talent and her knowledge of gemstones, Carol created many beautiful pieces of jewelry for friends and family. Carol is survived by her three children, Jay Singleton, Kason-dera Singleton Perkins, and Stan Singleton, and their families, as well as two sisters and three brothers, and many nieces and nephews. Private interment was held at Golden Gate National Cemetery alongside her husband George. Friends and family were invited to a celebration of Carol's life at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30th at the home of Janeen and Jesse Zuniga.

Geology Trip

Saturday October 1, 2006

Located in Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve is the main source of the volcanic rocks in which are found Berkeley “blue” agates. Participants will receive advice about collecting agates in the Berkeley Hills.

Traveling either east or west on Highway 24, Exit at Fish Ranch Road, proceed to the intersection with Grizzly Peak Boulevard, turn left (SE) on Grizzly Peak Boulevard, go approximately 2 ½ miles to intersection with Skyline Boulevard, then left 1/10 mile on Skyline to the Park entrance.
