2. Which state in the table lost the largest number of African American’s? What state gained the largest number?

Mississippi lost the largest number at 129,600.

Pennsylvania gained the most at 82,500.

3. For each of the following states, tell whether it was likely to have experienced a gain or a loss of African American population between 1910 and 1920: Indiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, Virginia.

Indiana and New Jersey would have experienced a gain in population.

North Carolina and Virginia would have lost population.

4. Name five northern cities that probably saw their African American populations grow rapidly between 1910 and 1920.

Five cities that would see their population grow would be: St Louis, Detroit,

New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago.

5. What problems might happen in the cities because of the Great Migration?

Similar to the problems cities experienced after the growth in immigration, cities would experience overcrowding and slums or ghettos would develop.
