DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION OF FISHING IN TEXAS

-2-

There will be an optional Big Bass Pot for $10.00 per team member. This fee will be collected at registration and

Will be paid out each day to the top three big bass placing.

On Friday, September 9th, there will be a mandatory Captain’s meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Expo Center. During this meeting, the tournament rules and weigh in procedures will be explained. Tournament Patches will be distributed to all eligible teams fishing this Championship during the meeting as well. An eligible team would qualify as a currently paid club of TABC.

And don’t forget about the other activities during the weekend. On Saturday, September 10th, the Chamber of Commerce is hosting a meal at the Expo Center. Meal tickets will be issued during the Captain’s meeting. Should anyone need extra meal tickets they will be available at this time for $5.00 per ticket.

At the end of the tournament, cash and trophies will be awarded to the top six winning clubs and depending on the number of entries, additional cash may be awarded out for additional placing. For last year’s Championship, TABC presented more than $12,000.00 in cash and prizes to the winners and are expecting to pay out the same if not more for the ‘05 year. For the winning team, Minn-Kota has agreed to award a trolling motor (valued around $1,000.00).

There will be door prizes presented during the tallying of the weights on Sunday and ALL CLUBS ARE ASKED TO PLEASE DONATE A DOOR PRIZE WITH A MINIMUM VALUE OF $25.00. Door prizes, cash, and awards will be presented at the Expo Center as well on Sunday, September 11th. When your club donates a door prize, please make sure that your club name is on the donated item.

Also, during this exciting weekend, TABC will be selling raffle tickets. Among the prizes will be a Minn-Kota 70 FC Trolling Motor and a MK 330 3-Bank Battery Charger, along with some other neat items. Tickets will be available to purchase on Friday and Saturday with the winning tickets being announced on Sunday. All winners must be present in order to pick up their items for the raffle.

Should any clubs be interested in possibly having a booth during this tournament, please give Mr. Jim Reed with the Chamber of Commerce a call at (254) 681-8697.

FRESH WATER STAMP:

Originally, the Texas Legislature had decided to use the Fresh Water Stamp money to pay for a bond by using $9 Million Dollars to pay for the interest for this bond. At this time, numerous fishing agencies went public and asked for help by anglers sending e-mails and letters against paying for the interest. Due to the many responses, Mr. Phil Durocher stated that he would like to thank everyone for stepping up and voicing their concern of how these funds were going to be dispersed from the Stamp. It has now been decided that instead of paying this note off in 20 years, it will be paid off as soon as it can be, possibly within 3-5 years and the interest on the note will be less than originally expected. So, thanks to all of those who took the time to respond.

BOYSVILLE:

Frank Goll with the Towne & Country (T&C) Optimist Club is looking for volunteers to help with the 36th Annual Boysville Fishing Tournament. As in the past, Boysville will be held on Sunday, July 31st at Potter’s Creek, Canyon Lake. It will be from 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Approximately 70 – 100 youngsters are expected to attend, so enough boats need to be available to take these youths out. When you arrive at Potter’s Creek, let the person who is manning the gate know that you are there to help out with Boysville and which club you are representing. T&C Optimist will pay your launching fee.

You will be given a ticket to enter the park and then will be directed to the staging area. There will be breakfast tacos, coffee, and juices available at the staging area from 5:30 a.m. – 7:00 a.m., prior to the arrival of the youngsters. Once the youngsters arrive, each boat will be paired with the Boysville participants by a check out list with one of the T&C volunteers. When pairing up, also give your name and bass club that you are participating with. At the end of the tournament, the top 2 club’s with the most participants will win special prizes.

If you are planning on taking these youngsters out, it is the boater’s responsibility to provide EACH youngster an approved life preserver. It is also your responsibility to provide the necessary rods, reels, tackle, and sunscreen, and any special baits to be used during fishing, although worms will be available at the staging area. All state size and possession limits must be obeyed. Weigh in will start at 11:00 a.m. and will end shortly after 12:00 p.m, with all species of fish being able to be weighed in (the popular being Carp). Everyone must be off of the lake by noon. All boater’s are ask to make sure their kill switches properly work and please have the lanyard attached when you are running your big motor, plus, if you are planning on taking a girl out from Boysville, a female must be in the boat with them. Again, a reminder to all adults, that there will be no alcoholic beverages allowed on the boat or consumed during tournament hours.

After the tournament, awards are presented for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Heavy Stringer, Big Fish (again, usually a Carp) and the Most Fish (normally a live well full of Perch). After completion of the awards, all volunteers are asked to please hang around for refreshments and door prizes. If you have any questions or would like to help volunteer, please contact Frank Goll at or .
