Talking Points for

Recruiting Participants

The following messages can be used to recruit participants for Safe + Sound Week. You can download the recruitment flyer referenced below from OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week website, www.osha.gov/safeandsoundweek/docs/SandS_Week_One_Pager.pdf.

· We are excited to be involved in the first-ever Safe + Sound Week. The goal is to raise awareness and understanding about the value of safety and health programs among workplaces across the country.

· During the week of June 12 through 18, organizations of all sizes and from any industry are asked to undertake activities to help get a safety and health program started or energize an existing one.

· Co-sponsors include OSHA, the National Safety Council, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the American Society of Safety Engineers, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

· Numerous trade, labor, and professional organizations are partnering with us to promote this opportunity to their members. [Visit www.osha.gov/safeandsoundweek and click on the “Event Partners” button to find relevant partners.]

· Participating in Safe + Sound Week provides an opportunity to proactively identify and manage hazards in your workplace before they cause injuries or illnesses. [You can also share more about why you have become involved in Safe + Sound Week.]

· Throughout the week, participants will host events and undertake activities that showcase the core elements of an effective safety and health program: management leadership, worker participation, and finding and fixing workplace hazards.

· While participants are encouraged to implement one activity involving each of the three core elements, even hosting one event or activity is a good place to start.

· Guidance will be available on how to implement activities for each of the core elements or participants can come up with their own ideas. [You can share additional suggestions of activities specific to your target audience.]

· A variety of free tools and templates will also be available on the Safe + Sound Week website soon to help organizations plan, promote, and communicate about their Safe + Sound Week events.

· These will include planning tools for events, graphics to promote your participation, and customizable communications such as fill-in-the-blank emails, articles, invitations, and posters. There will even be strategies for sharing your activities with traditional and social media.

· Once you commit to conducting one or more activities for Safe + Sound Week, you can post a Save the Date badge to your website or share it on social media.

· In addition, you will soon be able to register your event to be included on a map on the Safe + Sound Week website.

· During the week, you can use social networks, such as Twitter, to share information and photos from your event with the hashtag #SafeAndSound.

· And once you complete your Safe + Sound Week activities and events, you can download a certificate or web badge.

· Co-sponsors and partners will be promoting organizations that participate in a variety of ways. [If you’re recognizing the audience you’re presenting to in some way, discuss this here.]

We’ll also be looking for successful activities and programs to highlight, so let us know your results.

· If you are interested in participating, you can visit the Safe + Sound Week website now at www.osha.gov/safeandsoundweek to sign up for regular emails. We will let you know as more tools and activity guidance materials are posted, to help you select, plan, and promote your Safe + Sound Week events.

· In the meantime, you can visit www.osha.gov/shpcampaign to learn about the key components of a successful safety and health program, ideas for getting started, and resources to help you along the way.
