Application Form

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for taking an interest in the posts of Class Teachers in our Federation. We would like to send you a warm welcome on behalf of all staff, children and governors. We are looking for teachers who are committed to ensuring the children in our school are supported to reach their full potential. But most of all we are seeking to appoint people who understand how to create the magic that engages our children as they journey through our school and who like to work hard but who have a sense of humour and who will work with us to make our jobs enjoyable. We spend a lot of time at work and with our colleagues; can you help us to ensure our Federation maintains its outstanding culture, and contribute to our family atmosphere?

We have many experienced staff across our federation, with much to offer, and we would like to hear about your skills, knowledge and experience and what you have to offer us. We are well resourced and continue to ensure our teachers have the resources they need. We support our team and will therefore offer training and support for you, because you will be a valuable member of our team.

Wyberton Primary is outstanding and St Thomas’ is at least good. You have read what our staff say about our school. They are very friendly and welcoming. If you have read our Ofsted reports, you will see that this was also identified by the inspectors who have visited us. Our teachers, teaching assistants and support staff work well as a team. Our two primary schools and Little Oaks nursery school form The Great Oaks Federation. Being part of a federation has brought a wealth of opportunities for our staff. Our two schools are different and this creates interesting professional development opportunities. We encourage staff to work together if it helps them, but we don’t make anyone work across schools unless they want to. Our staff are professional and we trust them to make their own decisions.

We are particularly well staffed, and we have found that reducing class sizes in upper Key Stage Two has had a big impact on children’s progress as well as significantly reducing teacher workload. It has been a real bonus in helping us to achieve the increasing high standards expected of us by the government. As a result of this evidence, we would like to expand this strategy to other year groups and, over time, increase the number of teachers we have. We will still have year groups that have one teacher per class of 30 and some of our teachers want to stay this way and increase the number of teaching assistants in their team. That’s fine and we want to offer this flexibility to new and existing teachers who can talk to us about what works best in their team.

We offer a range of attractive benefit packages for different staff which includes:

·  Private healthcare

·  Fully funded education research, which allows teachers to take a week out of term time to pursue a particular interest. Research can take place in this country or abroad.

·  Recruitment and retention pay bonus. This is on top of TLRs, UPS and Leadership pay awards.

If you would like further information about the post, or our schools, or you would like to arrange to come and look around, please don’t hesitate to contact either of the Heads of School.

Yours sincerely

Gavin Booth

Executive Headteacher
